Apparently this (the overlap of the 2 broods) will only happen in Illinois, Missouri and whereabouts...
MethDozer · M
@gfantasy oh thank god

Cool...fishing will be off the charts when those things are hatching

Me ready for cicada summer [image]
I can hardly wait. 😒
I HATE those things.
@LordShadowfire when I was a kid I used to catch them with butterfly nets just to look at them up close, then I'd release them.
@robingoodfellow Same here, they tend to put me to sleep their sound is so soothing.
@robingoodfellow I'm glad you like their sound. It's just irritating to me. And I HATE when they dive-bomb me. 🫣 Little f***ers. 😒

Prime numbers work, yo.

Impressive. That's one thing I love about a summer night. Such a peaceful sound to me. Pairs well with a campfire going.✨

Seems Florida won't be experiencing this rare double decibel event, but we do have cicadas here. As deafening as their calls often are, I find it comforting...hearing them.
Piper · 61-69, F
@LordShadowfire There would be no "argument" from me, defending the politics and many other things about this state I ended up back in. The fact that many people continue to visit and move here, though, is indisputable.
@Piper Okay, so then I guess the big question is why. These must be people who agree with politics in Florida? Or do they just not care, so long as they get to live in a tropical climate?
Piper · 61-69, F
@LordShadowfire There are many people in Florida who agree with the current reigning political power, but many still, who do not. There are many people here, who fight to preserve the health and beauty of the remaining 'natural' places...including trees that cicadas fill.

If YOU want to discuss this further, maybe submit a post about it or something.
Cool!!🤓👍
So, what happens when they breed? We get 15 year brood?🤔
@UnderLockDown food for thought

Bigtime Solar eclipse in April, 200 year insect broods. Lots of interesting natural things happening in the eastern U.S. this Spring & Summer.
supersnipe · 61-69, M
I can almost hear them now! Reminds me of the year I spent in the South of France when I was a student. 🦗

Oh, Great it will give everyone who cries the world is ending more incentive, lovely!
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
We have migrating Mississippi kites in the summer. By the time they hatch out the kites will have hatched babies and will keep busy all day catching those bugs. They are easy to catch when they start making their noises. I really love those Mississippi Kites for that reason alone. And it helps keep the noise down. Cicada noise just reminds me of the heat during the daytime.
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
What I miss about summer nights, hearing their mating calls.
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
And there's other ways to kill them.....like these Politicians never thought of it. Of course China and India including Pakistan were too late.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@FreestyleArt Catch them and feed them to the elites since they think eating bugs are a good idea.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Time to look up recipes for fried grasshoppers? I hear they're quite nutritious.
I wonder which grouping I got so many photos of a couple years ago.
Holy moly. They’re still not expected in my state, though.
@bijouxbroussard i would miss them if they weren't a part of my summer.
Cicadas and fireflies.
@robingoodfellow We have neither of those. I loved fireflies so much when I’d visit my grandparents in Louisiana and we kids would chase them in the front yard.
😱 😱 😱
Sounds like Sherwood is going to get noisy.

Update: Nope. It seems that it will be happening in the eastern United States. Darn.
@LordShadowfire If I visit Louisiana this year, I might encounter them.

Oh that’s not going to be fun
