I used to feel that way, volunteered to fight for our county, and served it for over 20 years.
Then, somewhere along the way, I woke up to the fact that we were no longer the land we once said we were.
I would still fight for the right to be free, but I know we aren't, not all of us, and certainly not even equally so.
We once shouted from the rooftops that:
" We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
We haven't got there yet. When we do, I'll once again be proud to be an American.

I wonder if we could do a comparison to see what Free means.
What freedoms do you have that I, as an Australian, do not have? You may or may not know much about Australia, so how about you list the freedoms you have that you treasure most and I'll say if we have those. If there are any of my freedoms left, I'll list them and see if you ahve them.

You know, I've always thought that you can't be legitimately proud of something you had no choice in, or had no hand in creating. I mean, I was born in America — I didn't have anything to do with it, so I don't feel I can legitimately be proud of it. Now, people who immigrate here, who put in the effort to leave where they're from and become part of this nation, they can say they're proud to be Americans.

Looked that up and was not aware all that went on dating way back. For example I did not know that Ireland lived as part of the English, and then British, Empire for over 700 years (except for a brief decade of independence in the 1640s) until 1922 and the foundation of modern state. Fascinating. Thank you, that was very informative.

@HijabaDabbaDoo Yeah we'll never forget beating that English ass. Though that's probably because they teach it to us over and over in school.
