I never understand what people mean when they say they "miss the music." The music is still there. And a thousand times more accessible now than it was in the actual 90s.

I was a teenager in the 90s and I remember skipping school to go to the record store on new release Tuesdays. I had a big binder with maybe 200 CDs by the end of the decade. But in the age of the internet I've been able to discover a lot more 90s music than I ever did during the actual decade.
...

But to answer your question: I do miss the 90s. I miss the optimism we felt back then. I miss that period after the Berlin Wall fell but before the WTC fell when everything seemed like it was headed in the right direction. I don't know if we'll ever feel that again.

@Dex1981 You nailed it! That sweet spot in time. I’m sad my kids will never feel that free.
@Dex1981 Do you connect emotionally with music, or is it about finding music? I remember those days of walking into a record store, looking upon covers and titles and there was a joy in finding something unique and intimate. I prefer the sentiment and emotion over the availabiliy now

I wasn’t around for them, but the music does seem really cool!!!

I absolutely love Torn by Natalie Imbruglia!
Do you know it?
supersnipe · 61-69, M
@Strongtea Great record! One of pop history's famous 'No. 2's' in the UK. Kept off the top spot by Aqua and 'Barbie Girl', which I detested.
@supersnipe Barbie Girl is a fun silly song, meant to be one.

Some of it is the innocence I felt in that time, but also a bit of "90s" sound, that alternative to pop radio, bass driven, garage band sound... songs don't come out much like that anymore.

@Starcrossed You are right.
LilMonkey78 · 46-50, F
@Starcrossed yes! Agreed! I feel like some of the bands I love would have been looked over today for not being polished and auto tuned

Being a 90s child, I'll always remember this music. It'll always hold a place in my childhood memories. One of my favorite songs of that era is this one

When asked about the meaning of that song:

That was on a TV show. There was this poor guy taking a rich guy through a hotel to experience the losses of the less fortunate than him. The rich guy is just complaining because he just wants to get out and the poor guy is saying you have to wait till tomorrow to get out. That’s one of our least serious songs but it still has meaning to it.

Back to me. Culturally I kind of do, but technology was maybe a bit on the lower end for my tastes.

90's accounts for over a quarter of my list. It's nice to get transported back there every now and then.[media=https://youtu.be/YFSgYa8YfWk]

I love listening to music a lot because it makes me feel relax. I miss the 1990s, those were the times when I used lay in bed at night and enjoy the sounds of music and I would pretend that I am singing the song. All day I would think about a particular song. That would help me get through the day.
Bignakedguy · 31-35, M
I certainly miss it. https://youtu.be/32ZTjFW2RYo?si=1DKBDPy23NMO_GsC

The 90s doesn’t feel that long ago. But I stopped loving the music around 1995…
Interesting song, I miss the 70's most.
