Best British band of all time?

Richard65 · M
It might be a cliché, but The Beatles.
ArtieKat · M
@Richard65
It might be a cliché, but The Beatles.
👍Yes. A truism
smiler2012 · 56-60
@Richard65 🤔 i would agree with you there
@Richard65 Agreed !
For me, Pink Floyd.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@LilMissAnonyMOUSE I would put Emerson Lake & Palmer a very close second.
@Gibbon Great musicians😊👍
SledgeHammer · 46-50, M
The Who...

Burnley123 · 41-45, M
No Americans (or Brits) have mentioned any British bands from the 90s.

Sad
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow @LesDawsonsPiano @TheFragile

The Manic Street Preachers were my favourite.
SarahTheHooker · 26-30, F
@Burnley123 I did mention the Spice Girls...

@Burnley123 Blur is a favorite of mine ..also Pulp
fun4us2b · M
Yes, New Order, The Cure, early Genesis. The Smiths...in that order, I think....
pedrohedgerow58 · 61-69, M
For me it would be Genesis,with Peter Gabriel.The Sex Pistols would be my second choice.
Iwillwait · M
Led Zeppelin
SarahTheHooker · 26-30, F
My parent's would say The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

Me? I'm younger - obviously - and the one band of recent times that I think have changed things up, worldwide, has got to be The Spice Girls.

I know...I know! All you Oasis fans, but didn't they do bugger all in America. The Spice Girls changed the musical landscape, I think, for a while.

Next to them, but again way before my time, would have to be Queen. Every album different to the previous one. All great songwriters. Brilliant sounds etc.

There you have it.

Not really a Coldplay fan, for a singer/songwriter fan.

Sarah 💋
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@SarahTheHooker I used this spice girls song to wske nick up.in the morning. As soon as the CD started he bolted out of bed to shut it off!

ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Hard choice, but CREAM or STEELEYE SPAN, followed by THE ROLLING STONES or LED ZEPPELIN.
LesDawsonsPiano · 70-79
@ChipmunkErnie How can I choose? But glad someone has gone for Steeleye Span. Had about six of their albums on vinyl, favourite was Parcel.of Rogues.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@LesDawsonsPiano Just looked, I've got 26 albums by them -- and I think they're still performing. I first heard of them back in the 1980s when the HOUR OF THE WOLF sci-fi/fantasy radio program on WBAI-FM in NYC used their "Wings of Silver" as its theme music.
LesDawsonsPiano · 70-79
@ChipmunkErnie Never knew they had so many albums! Maddy Prior, a great singer. Love "One Misty Moisty Morning".
ReneeT · 61-69, M
Not counting the Beatles or Stones, I have always been partial to Jethro Tull, Marillion, Big, Big Train, and The Who
A hard one. But the Beatles.

I mean shit they are legends for a reason.

Influencing everything from 60s pop to 90s goth subculture.
graphite · 61-69, M
So many to choose from...Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, Oasis, Stones, Who, ELP, Queen... But it's gotta be this one:
[media=https://youtu.be/tAe2Q_LhY8g]
Placebo. I’ve seen them live so many times. My favourite band.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Notladylike When I was born, I started to decay...
TheFragile · 46-50, M

Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Cure
Got to be Pepsi and Shirlie😁
@AbsolutelyFabulous The Wham ! singers ? 😄
@bijouxbroussard yes, that's them🤭😊
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
In the sixties and seventies definitely the beetles and the stones. Seventies was the Bee Gees, Peter Frampton, Pink Floyd, and the Stones.
The Stones have been performing longer than any other band so I'm going to have to give it to them.
TheFragile · 46-50, M
Convivial · 26-30, F
How do you define "best" ... Longevity, innovation, most sales? That's a different answer for each.... But I'm just glad there is🤗
LesDawsonsPiano · 70-79
Just a taster from Steeleye Span, the folk/rock group, mentioned in the thread.

DareToSayIT · 31-35, M
The Royal family. They attract the most audiences even when they sneeze.
Fullmetal · 46-50, M
Rolling Stones, Led Zep a very close second
calicuz · 56-60, M
Definitely the Rolling Stones.

Lugwho · 56-60, M
It's got to be Black Lace
SophSmiles · 22-25, F
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Rolling Stones . . The Beatles . . Queen . . Grimethorpe Colliery Band . .
Teslin · M
@SunshineGirl I am partial to the Beatles. But after seeing the movie, Queen was very good. Elton John was always a favorite (not 100% sure if he was British)
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Teslin Elton John is definitely British! 🇬🇧
Teslin · M
@SunshineGirl Thank you. 😊 I could have Googled it !!
SpudMuffin · 61-69, M
There are a lot of great bands being named here. I would add Hawkwind, Genesis, Iron Maiden and Motorhead. Oh, and Half Man Half Biscuit.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Arguably Black Sabbath.
Here's why - the rock and metal we know today wouldn't exist without them.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@basilfawlty89 @SpudMuffin

I know but this is a bad thing. They are responsible for Slipknot and Limp Bizkit.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@Burnley123 yeah but thats like saying that The Beatles led to Justin Bieber. It's not a linear line. Sabbath also inspired Judas Priest, Iron Maifen, etc.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@basilfawlty89 I was being semi seriously good point though.
MemoirOfAMistake · 18-21, F
Maybe they're not the best, but my fav is Arctic Monkeys
Electric Light Orchestra or Pink Floyd
Entwistle · 56-60, M
The Beatles. Absolutely no doubt about this!

@tenente I love you.
tenente · 100+, M
@Burnley123 😂😂😂
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
The Beatles followed by the Who.
The Dave Clark Five gave the Beatles and Stones a run for their money.
supersnipe · 61-69, M
@NativePortlander1970 I wouldn't put them at the top but I loved their 'Good Old Rock'n'Roll' EP from 1969. It was only the second single I ever bought and made me appreciate '50s music. An honorable mention also for their cover of Jerry Keller's 1959 hit 'Here Comes Summer' in 1970. Yep, bought that one too. Full of energy and just such a happy record! 😀

@supersnipe John Lennon apparently complained about them all of the time, criticizing them every chance he got.
