@NewMan2015 yeah it's weird

smiler2012 · 56-60
{@originnone] 🤷‍♂️ fair enough they sang about them but unlike that sick ba@ta@d gary glitter the never actually acted out the sick fantasies
nedkelly · 61-69, M
@smiler2012 should have his balls cut out or use a double barrel shotgun and let him suffer
smiler2012 · 56-60
@nedkelly 🤔i never mention the aussie com adopted pom paedo rolf harris lol two little boys what
eli1601 · 70-79, M
It's better than Jerry Lee Lewis who actually married a 13 year old.
originnone · 61-69, M
@eli1601 Yeah, and it was his cousin....as if that mattered.
eli1601 · 70-79, M
@originnone Maybe they were all from Kentucky. Didn't Loretta Lynn get married at 13 or 14. 16 may be a senior citizen in Kentucky.
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
@eli1601 or Gary Glitter...
Never really considered that. Mostly, I figured the songs were marketed to teenagers who bought the records.
GlitterEater · 36-40, F
No. Men are disgusting.
Slade · 56-60, M
@GlitterEater

Ah what a living doll {swoon} 🤩
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
They weren't considered under-aged back then. 16 was looked upon as becoming a woman. And over in the UK I think the age of consent is still 16. Heck, it was pretty common to get married right out of high school and starting a family back then.
originnone · 61-69, M
@ChipmunkErnie Yeah, my sister was 19 when she married. My kids are all 28 or older....
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@originnone Not like teens weren't having sex back then, but we seem to live in a society that keeps wanting to make teens wait later and later to be considered "adult". A LOT different from the old turn 13 and announce, "Today I am a man."?
originnone · 61-69, M
@ChipmunkErnie Maybe the expectation of post high school education affected that. My siblings graduated in the '60s, and things like high school graduation and proms meant a lot more to them than to me.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
Nah.

This isn't what it seems. Ok so maybe the KISS one is a little borderline..

But this happened because at the time, the number one buyer of single records was teen girls. So the singers of the era catered to them and wrote and sang songs that would sell to them.

Noticed you didn't mention this one...

@SumKindaMunster True....
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
Don't forget My Sharona.

Nah, it doesn't bother me, it was another time and we can't undo the damage. We can only make sure it doesn't happen again.
SW-User
@DearAmbellina2113 Good girls don't is another song that they did without parental consent :)
originnone · 61-69, M
@DearAmbellina2113 Yeah, but I'm not sure anyone knew what it meant....
hunkalove · 61-69, M
Sixteen was legal back then. You could get married without your parents' permission. You were an adult at 16.
I dont think highly of men so thats not shocking to me.
originnone · 61-69, M
@DarlingSelah I don't either, and I am one....
Slade · 56-60, M
Guarantee the age of consent, in most areas, was well below those ages at the time
nedkelly · 61-69, M
Ringo Starr
originnone · 61-69, M
@nedkelly Yep! You're 16; you're beautiful and you're mine.
smiler2012 · 56-60
@nedkelly ringo starr covered this song originally sang by johnny burnett in the early sixties
originnone · 61-69, M
@smiler2012 I remember the old one too.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
I'm pretty sure they were written that way to appeal to the new teenage music market of the time.
Weird how sensibilities change.
Those on this page saying they're creepy.....etc. I wouldn't mind betting their great Grandparents said exactly the same at the time

She's only 17 by Winger
ExtremeNext · 31-35
Nope why, what's wrong with that

This post fuels my misandry
Here's ten songs.

The song "Young Girl" bothered me even though I was a kid at the time. I found it insulting somehow. 🤭 Otherwise, I didn't overthink the rest of them, probably interprted them as a nostalgic look back at the singers' HS days.

It's gross, and wasn't 16 legal then? Idk maybe in their minds.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@HannahSky Yes, it was legal most places back then, I think. (Still is "legal" in the UK, I think.) Or younger. Want gross? Jerry Lee Lewis LEGALLY married his 13-year old cousin back in the 1950s!
HannahSky · F
arthurca · M
Younger girl by the critters, is another one
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
I already got blocked for saying that Elvis was a predator today.

It’s all disgusting.
Lilnonames · F
Yeah that Gary Puckett sounds like a pedo song
SW-User
@Lilnonames His name even sounds like a perversion :)
Not to mention Elvis Pressley started dating Priscilla when she was 14 and he was 26 while stationed in Germany with the US Army, her father was the base Commander, and Jerry Lee Lewis married his cousin, who was 13 at the time.
originnone · 61-69, M
@NativePortlander1970 Yeah, but John Phillips was doing his daughter for that matter....
@originnone Rumor was it that Michelle encouraged it.
