Does it ever bother you that great singers sang songs about underaged girls?

Neil Sedaka - Happy Birthday Sweet 16
Chuck Berry - Sweet Little 16 (Beach Boys stole it for Surfin' USA)
Beatles - I saw her standing there (she was just 17)
Kiss - Christine 16
The Crests - 16 candles
Gary Punket - Young Girl

They weren't considered under-aged back then. 16 was looked upon as becoming a woman. And over in the UK I think the age of consent is still 16. Heck, it was pretty common to get married right out of high school and starting a family back then.

@ChipmunkErnie Yeah, my sister was 19 when she married. My kids are all 28 or older....

@originnone Not like teens weren't having sex back then, but we seem to live in a society that keeps wanting to make teens wait later and later to be considered "adult". A LOT different from the old turn 13 and announce, "Today I am a man."?

@ChipmunkErnie Maybe the expectation of post high school education affected that. My siblings graduated in the '60s, and things like high school graduation and proms meant a lot more to them than to me.
