What were your favorite scary tv shows when you were growing up ?

A lot of the shows weren’t exactly horror; some straddled the categories of Sci-Fi and Paranormal…
One Step Beyond…predated The Twilight Zone but supposedly based upon actual events

This show scared the heck out of me when I was a teenager. And I hated that it only lasted one season !

If you can find intros please share them 😃

@bijouxbroussard I picked up the DVD set of the complete series. That pilot movie is included. Steven Spielberg directed that Joan Crawford segment.
The series holds up really well, makes great Halloween viewing.
@robingoodfellow Cool ! I know where I can get that. 😁
@robingoodfellow Rod Serling thanks you for BC

I remember Outer Limits and Twilight Zone, but my only association with One Step Beyond is this song by Madness!

I wasn't fond of scary shows as a kid. I can remember getting scared by Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and stopping watching it. I liked The Avengers, The Saint, It Takes a Thief, and Mission Impossible.
@ElwoodBlues Yes, but it’s different. It was a really good show.

My favorite ones, that I remember seeing as a child, weren't really all that scary. Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, and the Alfred Hitchcock shows.

@Piper I remember a Hitchcock episode where an old woman had a powder or something that turned people into pigs. She sprinkled it on cakes or something. Never saw it again but that sticks in my head.

@robingoodfellow I don't remember that one. Since I still watch those shows sometimes though, I'll let you know if I see it.

I’m too lazy to find intros but I’ve been watching the old Outer Limits and Tales From The Crypt with the kids lol.

The TFTC are on you tube and have vintage commercials that crack the kids up ahahah
@SwampFlower I remember even the sound of the intro made my skin crawl. But my brother loved it.

strangely, as one of the TV shows that I wasn’t allowed to watch, it was a cartoon called space ghost!
@Pfuzylogic I remember that ! Looking back it strikes me that its humor was more geared towards adults. 😄

@bijouxbroussard My Dad must have thought as much. We got 1 hour of Saturday cartoons.

Don't know if it qualifies as a show, but CHILLER THEATER -- with that 6-fingered hand rising from the swamp in the logo.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@robingoodfellow There were quite a few of those movies-on-TV formats when I was a kid: CHILLER THEATER, CREATURE FEATURES, MYSTERY THEATER, ORIENTAL THEATER (CHARLIE CHAN and MR MOTO films), EAST SIDE KIDS/BOWERY BOYS, and every Sunday on WPIX either TARZAN or ABBOTT AND COSTELLO.
@ChipmunkErnie remember the Mighty Sons of Hercules? They would show all those Italian Maciste and Hercules films.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@robingoodfellow Not one of my favorites, but yes, I remember them. And way back in the 1960s the local NYC TV channel (WOR 9?) broadcast some in widescreen as a special event and felt they had to keep flashing disclaimers for the audience to understand what a letterbox format was or viewers would think there was something wrong with their TV or with the broadcast..
4thdimensiondream · 61-69, M
The outer limits for me. Some episodes were really good and still hold up today.
Thriller (early 1960s) which was hosted by Boris Karloff.
