Horror movie

Which is the horror movie that really is very scary?
Nimbus · M
Prince Harry & Meghan.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Nimbus Finding Freedom ....lifetime movie about two privileged rich royals who had to cut way too many ribbons for nothing !!!but free vacations, houses, lands, clothes, cars, jewels,
and millions of pounds at tax payers expense.
Just existing in luxury wasn't enough!
Forced to wear beige and asked to not to bully staff was too much to ask of our heroine and so she wanted to return to USA with her dimwitted prince who needed freedom from his luxurious upbringing, being forced to live in a much too small castle, and who knows "What Megan wants,Megan gets .
smiler2012 · 56-60
@Nimbus 🤔i thought it would of been more the liverpool verses manchester united match last season at anfield for you nimby 😆the anityfield horror lol
nedkelly · 61-69, M
@smiler2012 The movie of Smiler and Mrs Smiler getting married, has been marked by the government never to be released due to Smiler crying all the way to the altar and bedroom
Luckylu · 61-69, F
Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the original when I was a kid. I had nightmares about it. I stay away from most horror movies that are just meant to see how scared they can get you since my early twenties after friends of mine dragged me to see Alien three times just so they could watch my reactions and just after that I watched Funhouse (1981) with a friend and had nightmares about Aliens. I will watch things like Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal because they are psychologically based and psychology intrigues me.
Luckylu · 61-69, F
@TheFragile I’m planning on watching it again since I’ve been watching Hannibal.
BLP11520 · 61-69, M
@Luckylu oh yeah
@Luckylu Both the original and 1978 remake of Body Snatchers are Awesome, the recent remake with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig sucks.

I don’t find horror films scary, my favourites are…
The original Halloween
Conjuring
The descent
The scream franchise (hilarious and I love it)
Candyman
Silence of the lambs
Devils rejects
SW-User
@basilfawlty89 I like them all but devils rejects is the best. I wasn’t as keen on house of 1000 corpses. I do like rob zombie movies though
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@SW-User my favourite character is good old Captain Spaulding. RIP Sid Haig.

@basilfawlty89 I like baby

Nothing would really beat the original exorcist. It set up a benchmark and no other one comes close
SlaveEt · 36-40, F
The Silence of the Lamb and Hannibal movies are deeply disturbing and, if you imagine actually living through them, truly terrifying.
OverTheHill · 56-60, M
@SlaveEt I agree. Silence of the Lambs gave evil a face in a way it had not been portrayed in film before. It bothered me tremendously after seeing it. I never brought myself to see the other films.
SlaveEt · 36-40, F
@OverTheHill
Probably best. I wish I could un-see several scenes from Hannibal in particular. Anthony Hopkins is a Master! *shudders*
Ragnarock1276 · 46-50, M
I thought Phantasm 2 and 3 were great. Part 1 was pretty long and boring.
AdaXI · 41-45, T
@Ragnarock1276 The Ball, is Back!!! LOLZ!

I've always found what's scary is very much in the eye of the beholder. My cousin says the original Exorcist traumatized her for life, meanwhile I find it laughable.
@SatyrService background: I'm 58 and I'm a lifelong cinefile in general and fan of the horror film in particular, although my interest with horror films does not extend to most present day productions.
I love horror from the 1970s and I have an extensive collection on DVD and BluRay but I have never been able to figure out the appeal of The Exorcist on any level. Every few years I drag it out of my collection and try to convince myself it's the masterpiece everyone says it is and it gets worse with each viewing. When Linda Blair turns to Max Von Sydow and says "why don't you put your c**k up up her ass" all it needs is an Andrew Dice Clay "OH!" after it.
It doesn't draw me into the horror, it takes me out of it. Much like Freddie Krueger's bad stand up comic zingers take me out of the Nightmare on Elm Street films.
There are endless boring scenes of people standing around arguing over what's wrong with Linda Blair. And what exactly is Lee J Cobb's purpose in the movie? He keeps showing up accompanied by ominous music leading us to believe he's going to do SOMETHING. But all he ever does is bother Ellen Burstyn for autographs. And what's up with making her character a famous movie star? Wouldn't make more sense to make her more of The Woman Next Door type so we could more easily identify with her?
Why is Max Von Sydow played up as such an important character when he actually doesn't do anything? We get all this background on him and then he basically just shows up to die. Jason Miller's Father Karras is all we need. He's the most interesting thing in the whole movie.
I know I'm ranting 😅 but anytime anyone gets into The Exorcist it sets me off.

As far as what I think is scary, I've rarely ever been scared by a horror movie. But the BBC end of the world film Threads terrifies me.

Someone mentioned the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Yeah that's pretty unnerving to me. Invaders From Mars scared me as a kid because suddenly your parents aren't your parents anymore.
@robingoodfellow very nice and detailed,, i certainty take your points, careful critique

I recommend for both good and bad "the Critical Drinker" on youtube sound like just another "mook" but he is seriously thoughtful and informed in his critiques
lots of sci fi interests and is rather against recasting every thing to achieve diversity
he LIKE women heroes but requires them to be well heroic,, not just diverse
his recommendations tend to be good
hates what Disney has done to star wars, and most of the later Star Trek products..

threads! not seen that in an old dogs age@!
i think the exorcist scares the religious most of all.
and yeah some great actors doing schlock

anything current you like?
@SatyrService I'll check out The Critical Drinker. Sounds like something that would interest me, thanks.
Current- I liked Midsommar. Not scary to me, but a pretty solid folk horror a little reminiscent of The Wicker Man.
Torsten · 36-40, M
The exorcist will probably go down as the scariest well known horror film. Sure it hasnt aged the best and its really not that bad but it has a hell of a reputation to it and the way people reacted to it when it was first released is unbeatable for a horror film i think..

but of course there is the Japanese horror films that take things to a whole new level
After I watched the original, I didn't sleep for a week.
The last shot of Host, When Evil Lurks, and Sinister
Jeephikelove · 46-50, F
All the psychological ones, most of the paranormal type too.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
Poltergeist.
TheFragile · 46-50, M
The Conjuring.
Jonjdw · 46-50, M
I’m not a horror movie buff. But for some reason the ring came to my mind. Not that I believe that is the most scary one I’ve seen. But I do remember it being pretty scary. Long time ago.
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
RenFur · 70-79, M
Good question. I suppose any kid under 10 thinks every horror picture is scary. I sure did. But now that I'm ancient, not much scares me anymore.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
The Shining
Insidious
Mandy
Babadook
Session 9
Salo
I've never seen a horror film that actually scared me
swirlie · 31-35, F
The Inauguration of Donald J. Trump

It seemed so surreal, it was so scary! No wonder it was rated PG13!
eli1601 · 70-79, M
@swirlie Prepare for part 2 coming in January 2025
swirlie · 31-35, F
@eli1601
I'll stock up on chips and popcorn and of course, a big blanket to hide under on the living room sofa!
I love the classic Universal Studio monsters
