Are there any films you like, that bombed at the cinema and nobody has heard of?

exexec · 61-69, C
One of my all-time favorites didn't do well, partly because of competition from blockbuster films out at the same time : "Secondhand Lions" with Robert Duvall and Michael Caine. Yes, it's corny, but fun.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@exexec I love that movie. I even have a copy on DVD. 🙂
exexec · 61-69, C
@Musicman I do, too. It always makes me feel good to watch it.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@exexec I think it should be a classic. 🙂
Ynotisay · M
A lot of good movies don't make good box office money but then become popular. Office Space, The Big Lebowski and Fight Club come to mind.
Castenmas · M
@Ynotisay I certainly agree with those three examples.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
The Big Lebowski
Children of Men
The Shawshank Redemption

... there are a lot of good movies that do bad during their original release.
TrashCat · M
@Kwek00 All good movies, but 'Children of Men' is a GREAT movie!!!
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@TrashCat I honestly think all 3 of them are pretty spectaculairrr. But like they say: "Les goûts et les couleurs on ne discute pas".

2001:A Space Odyssey originally did poorly at the box office.

But the producers learned that when it was shown on college campuses, audiences were bringing weed to smoke for the "psychedelic light show" at the end.

They then re-released it, with ads that read "the ultimate trip".

It ended up turning a profit.
Slade · 56-60, M
@DrWatson IAWL was classic film noir, with a happy ending tacked on

I for one saw nothing wrong with Pottersville
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@Slade I am much more of a sentimentalist than you are!
Slade · 56-60, M
@DrWatson They could have ended the flick after George jumped in the water.

Run credits over George at the bottom next to Potter and his wheechair! 😈🕳️

@Musicman This might be it-- Stargate 15th Anniversary Edition

I know the SG-1 box set has it, but I was considering a purchase at the time and only would have bought the film itself. I'm thinking it's gotta be some iteration of a directors cut film , or special edition, etc.
