I would drive out to the beach and watch them filming the boat scenes. It was cool to see the production equipment. They had big rigs full of stuff and RVs.

Barry Tubb directed and filmed Grand Champion in his home town and mine Snyder Texas I believe it was 2004. Bruce Willis, George Strait, Julia Roberts and others. Julia Roberts went to the local McDonald’s tried to order breakfast after 10:30am. They refused to serve her breakfast. She was pissed asked them do you know who I am? They said sorry ma'am we don’t serve breakfast after 10:30am. She stormed out. They rented a restaurant down the street and it was closed to the public. I met Barry several times in snyder starting back in the late 70s and as late as 2012. He often goes back to his home town and visits his favorite restaurant Spanish Inn that has been there for decades. I believe it was around 2010 I worked at the local automotive machine shop just down the road from the Spanish Inn that Barry new the owners for many years he came in had an old international Scout towed up their wanted us to pull the engine and rebuild it and fix the thing up for his girlfriend. We did some work on it and it set there for a couple years and then it was gone.
