Have you ever watched a movie or show that was really intense?

Twice this has happened to me with The Handmaid's Tale. It took me months to go back to it. So i started watching again this morning i feel like i need to decompress.

When I watch a good series from Amazon. I read the description and watch the trailer first.
Then I watch episode 1...then 2..and it's almost midnight and I watch 4 of them because they are good and intense.
The next night I watch the rest, like 4 more.
I love a good intense movie

Yes.
Queen Latifah The Equalizer.
Captain Phillips with Tom Hanks. When the ship gets hijacked until the end of the movie, thought I was gonna need some blood pressure medication.

Event Horizon for a film.
On release day, the first thing I did when I got off work was pop into my Blockbuster, hoping there was a copy left.
And I was in luck, as there were a few still available.
Below my apartment building, there were a couple of businesses and a Cousins' Subs.
I grabbed my usual double Cheesesteak and went up to pop the VHS tape (it was 1997 still) in and began what was going to be a great late night.
Holy shit, I've never been so freaked out watching a movie before, I had to pause it a few times to collect myself.
Great movie though, and still one of my favorites.

@Levenrack Yes, I picked it up because I love sci-fi, but didn't realise the horror element was so strong in it.
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
@Levenrack wow that sounds intense
Levenrack · 46-50, M

The Handmaid’s Tale is so good and so difficult to watch.
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
@ChampagneOnIce yes it is ive cried and cringed people are so evil
The original BladeRunner hit me deep. I remember thinking "oh shit! ....the futures not gonna be all organic food and streamlined transport.....its gonna be like this: dark and desperate.

The Hanmaids tale was really good. Potentially scarily prophetic too🫤

@OogieBoogie that sounds so bleak omg

It's happened to me a couple times, too.
"Full Metal Jacket" was a hard one to watch, and I'll never watch "Platoon" again. I just can't.

The future for women...as it now seems directed😞

A movie made in India about the Partition titled Earth. It is about the religious violence that spread through India and lead to parts of India being separated into the nation of Pakistan. There were friends who would sit at the same tables to dine and entertain at home from diverse religious backgrounds. They became mortal enemies as the violence spread. It was heartbreaking how religious politics could destroy friendships.
kittee · 26-30, T
@cherokeepatti yes thats agood film, it shows how politicans can do very bad things, in pursuit of power
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
@cherokeepatti movies like that are just so heartbreaking Tears of the Sun was like that they chopped off a woman's breasts so that her baby would starve to death. That's another one that I couldn't finish.
There are some Film Noir that can fill the bill.

There is a French film I recently watched "Wages of Sin" along with its American remake "Sorcerer". Both are really intense.

Watching the original Swedish/Danish police series The Bridge (Bron) used to leave me wrung out at the end. The haunting theme music added to the dark atmosphere. After the last episode, I once again recalled the concept of dramatic catharsis where you work out your emotions vicariously by watching others go through the trauma.
GoFish ·
i heard of that but never watched it
