For the 2000's it would have to be Breaking Bad.
4thdimensiondream · 70-79, M
@SleepingWithGhosts I will be watching a 3rd time soon.
SleepingWithGhosts · 46-50, M

To whom, when?
To my career, and any years ago, such shows as Mr. WIZARD, See it Now, Medic were of profound influence to me and many researchers at major medical research centers. As to entertainment, the show Omnibus and Ed Sullivan were ground breakers.
Recently, i would go with Stepgen Colbert and Rachel Madow, on one side, i will show my bias by lumping the far right together as just tyst.

@samueltyler2 to whom and when indeed. I remember Mr Wizard. Was his name Herbert?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@4thdimensiondream yes, Don Herbert, he was a major influencer before that term was invented.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@samueltyler2 Don Herbert, Ernie Coombs, Fred Rogers, Bob Ross, Carl Sagan, Bill Nye, those were television's greatest influencers.

Of the ones you listed I'd agree with your choice of Cronkite and the nightly news... his breaking-news coverage of the JFK assassination as well as the nightly horrors of the Viet Nam war were memorable, eye-opening and as honest as could be expected unlike today with the "alternate facts" and Right versus Left takes on reality.
4thdimensiondream · 70-79, M
@rinkydinkydoink I think everybody trusted him. Back then to be a network anchor you really had to earn it.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@4thdimensiondream most were truly journalists, most today are purely news readers.

@samueltyler2
YES - - who gets to all themselves journalists? This is probably the only profession that has so many wannabes rather than actual journalism school graduates. How many fake doctors, lawyers, dentists, etc are getting away with such nonsense? If caught, they'd be locked up but quick.

Have only seen reruns of course but over all, "I Love Lucy" kinda devised the blueprint for TV shows itself.
4thdimensiondream · 70-79, M
@Punxi good one
