Will AOC be the next dem nominee? Or Jasmine Crockett?

Seems like they're the ones to watch.

......Dont think its gonna be Fetterman

The USA badly needs radical change and AOC would be the perfect president to steer the country in the right direction. I'm afraid she's too radical for most people though and making her the democratic candidate could push the country into another 4 years of MAGA.

Of course that only matters if there will still be fair elections in the foreseeable future, otherwise you'll end up with many more years of MAGA no matter who runs against the republicans, which is quite possible too.
AOC would be my preference ... a progressive POTUS candidate (who actually becomes the party nominee for the general election, unlike Bernie) would actually be something different since 1992 ... would actually be a genuine alternative for once in three decades, not more of the same-old-same-old uniparty that ultimately precipitated MAGAts ... and that alternative might actually win if it could sacrifice the identity politics component for at least one or two election cycles, progressives need to prioritize the things that will get them elected first, and vocally downplay the things that lose elections for them — loudly and repetitively enough to overcome the toxic rightwing disinformation apparatus which is able to make actual lies into the accepted narrative for low-information voters in an epic fashion — at least for awhile, until the Overton Window actually moves

I don't even think of Fetterman as a Dem at all, just a MAGA-Lite Israel lobbyist

As for Pete Buttigieg ... please, not another centrist ... we've had 3 decades of Third Way neoliberals already, and they are the entire reason we have seen the rise of a far right populist fringe become mainstream now, primarily because ever since Bill Clinton it has been hard to distinguish Dems from Republicans, with Dems embracing Republican economics and abandoning the working class (who have now, paradoxically, turned to the very thing which Third Way Dems were emulating in the first place, and which alienated the working class in the first place) ... moreover, if the US is still so regressive that the majority cannot imagine voting for a woman (a very non-radical and Israel lobby continuity candidate like Harris), then I suspect they also aren't ready for a gay man, and thus we continue losing strategies before the Overton Window has actually moved)

Moreover, Dems need to return to the way POTUS candidates were nominated prior to the 1970s — i.e., get rid of the primary system and just have the party select a candidate like it used to ... primaries only got us Hillary and Biden, instead of Bernie or Liz Warren) ... but first progressives need to somehow get control of the DNC away from the scourge of centrists trying to cosplay as Republicans

***********

And yet having even a truly progressive POTUS in office doesn't really matter much unless progressives (not just Dems) also hold both the Senate and the House ... not much progress will be made without that. Every f*cking race matters, in every cycle, mid-terms included. People have to show up at the polls consistently, and to also not have a voting identity crisis if some economic indicator not actually within the control of a POTUS causes that voter to have a bad quarter for which they just nonsenically punish the incumbent party, or just STFU when nothing ever changes, administration after administration. Lack of a realistic understanding / minimal education in economics / politics, or laziness and apathy about voting or staying informed via real news (not social media and MAGA media), only enables a natural slide into fascism, every time, and everyone who is not consistently voting against fascism is complicit.

Switching parties every cycle, like a cat watching a tennis match, doesn't make you an "independent" any more than shunning journalism makes you a "free-thinker" 🤦🏻‍♀🤦🏻‍♀🤦🏻‍♀

@BlueGreenGrey re:AOC. I don’t know how I’d feel if I had a president I found sexually attractive .
IM5688 · 61-69, M
IMO, AOC is even more clueless than Harris. If AOC were voted in as potus, she would just be the next puppet of the democrat party.
If people want to turn this country into an third world country, vote for AOC, Sanders, Newsome, etc. Look at Newsom's California. Look at the 70% increase in crime in AOC district. Look at California, New York City, Chicago, etc, all run by and being ruined by democrats.
iamthe99 · M
@IM5688 The US is already a third-world country thanks to Trump. The only way is up with AOC!
IM5688 · 61-69, M
@iamthe99 If you truly feel that AOC would be a good president to run our country, then you're just as clueless as she is. Can you even make a list of anything good that she has accomplished?
iamthe99 · M
@IM5688 Hmm let's see. She:

Redirected $5M from the DEA to treatment programs (2019).

Repealed the Faircloth Amendment, paving way for new public housing.

Mandated Pentagon study on MDMA and psychedelics.

Helped end Section 215 of the Patriot Act (mass data collection).

Called out the Bolivia coup early; introduced legislation to block U.S. support.

Supported Colombian President Petro’s reforms; passed amendments restricting harmful U.S. involvement.

Opposed U.S. military support for repressive government post-Castillo ouster in Peru.

Called Israel an apartheid state, supported BDS resolution, opposed Iron Dome funding.

Urged Biden to end Saudi blockade over Yemen when he was in office.

Signed letter urging DOJ to drop charges over Julian Assange.

Voted to withdraw troops from Syria and Somalia; opposed anti-China escalations.

Supported unionization at Amazon, Starbucks, UPS, and more; joined picket lines; rallied with ALU and Teamsters.

Pushed for rent control, eviction moratoriums, and tenant protections (including NY state wins).

Introduced landmark resolution that influenced national and state climate policies.

Called early for stimulus checks, eviction moratorium, and student debt relief.

Introduced federal fracking ban after criticism of GND.

Opposed efforts to privatize a Bronx VA hospital.

Helped shape Build Back Better, ARPA, and IRA climate components via Biden-Sanders task forces.

Inspired waves of activists and electoral campaigns (e.g., No IDC in NY).

And has been praised for accessibility and collaboration with progressive orgs and unions.

You're welcome.

AOC-Buttigieg could be good, or vice versa.

Also, long shot, AOC-Sanders!!
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
@iamthe99 I'm very impressed with Buttigieg. I believe he and Aoc will make a good team
@iamthe99 I love Bernie, but 2016 was his moment and the US suffered because Hillary was the nominee. We cannot have already forgotten the lesson, this soon, of selecting geriatric candidates for political office (we cannot even afford to continue without an upper age limit for being on the ballot codified into law, since the electorate doesn't have the wisdom and the lack of fickleness to enforce this on its own).

AOC needs a progressive VP running mate no older than about 55 to be honest, if we assume it is always a possibility that the POTUS serves two terms and then their VP serves two terms in succession as well (or worse, their VP is elected after a gap where the opposition party gets one or more terms).
iamthe99 · M
@BlueGreenGrey Yep. I mean twice now Sanders was shut down by the Democratic establishment, for all the good it ultimately did them.
bookerdana · M
I'm thinking Mayor Pete

I can see a Newsom-AOC ticket
calicuz · 56-60, M
@iamthe99

After the last week in California, I can definitely see that.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
I wouldn’t even ask this question till after the midterms . Lots of time between now and then for an unknown to rise like Obama did.
@Longpatrol our pres is a joke bro
@Longpatrol @Longpatrol @Longpatrol @Longpatrol @Longpatrol I swear id rather nominate someone from here 🤷
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
@MyMonstersAreReal With that many tags I can only assume my self. I accept the honour. By executive order Mondays shall be renamed to I Love the Male Body Day, wednesdays to I Love Black and White Photography Day and Fridays to I Love the Female Body Day.

Education will be vastly subsidised for kids, and meals if not free won't be a method of segregation between socio economic classes. Health care won't be free either but the companies will not be able to set their own obscene prices, and healthcare will be commonsense, not predatory.
KiwiDan · 31-35, M
I'm just going to smile and nod
