Seriously?! Omfg 🤬
Well I’m shocked, but I guess I really shouldn’t be…
Yes, according to news reports, President Trump has announced plans to implement a 100% tariff on movies made outside the U.S. that are imported into the country. He has directed the Department of Commerce and the U.S. Trade Representative to begin the process of instituting this tariff.
However, the practical implementation of such a tariff is unclear, particularly because movies are not physical goods and the traditional application of tariffs is on goods that move through ports. It is also not certain what the threshold would be to classify a movie as an import, or against what it would be charged.
The announcement has sparked debate in political and economic circles, with some framing it as a national security measure to protect the U.S. film industry, while others question its feasibility and potential economic consequences

serious question: how to apply this tariff and where does the 100% tariff apply and not apply? where is this tariff collected: on the movie ticket purchase, or on the streaming subscription, or the blueray dvd,... ? what defines the nominal origin value of a movie?
jackjjackson · 70-79, M
It’s applied prior to any product entering the US and paid by the seller. To the extent the foreign seller chooses to jack up the price of an item, the US consumer the US citizen has her, his or its choice to buy another product. The net result is that should foreign product sellers wish to access the US consumer market they must have fair reciprocal trade tariffs and processes. @tenente

Well, good on him. He is real man unlike you.

@Ferise1 Calling it a 'national security' issue and saying that any movie not produced in the USA is touting 'propaganda' is quite delusional. BTW the tariff's are actually targeting Hollywood studios more than those outside the USA as very few if any foreign movies get shown in the USA, but almost every movie shown here is from a US studio. Maybe people here should boycott all Disney, WB, etc. movies as they promote 'pro-USA propaganda' lol 8-)

Boycott Disney for sure. @zonavar68

@jackjjackson Sure buddy... What ever your orange calf vomits into your ears will be uncritically vomitted upon those that interact with you.

To the contrary I only take issue with the entitled especially non US citizen foreigners. Oh and your name calling? Simply proves that I am accurate. @Kwek00
