Why are British political dramas/thrillers...

... so tendentious and tedious?

Seriously, they should stick to costume dramas, police procedurals and farces.

Maybe because our politics isn't full of conspiracies and assassinations🤷‍♂️
Gusman · 61-69, M
Some can be tedious. Some can be brilliant. I found Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy so boring I did not finish watching it.
Thanks for the new word. Tendentious
WoodyAq · M
@Gusman Yeah, the John LeCarre stuff is the exception.

Those are more "spy procedurals", though.

That's subject to individual opinions to be fair
WoodyAq · M
@agonyaunt It is to some degree as whether you like that style or not. But that the style is smug, heavy handed and simplistic, is less disputable.
agonyaunt · 41-45, F
@WoodyAq tbf i feel the same about some of the American ones on that respect. Nonsensical springs to mind
WoodyAq · M
@agonyaunt Yeah. But, the Americans churn out a much broader range of shite, genre-wise. It's much more equal-opportunity dumb.

The Brits are more selective.
MethDozer · M
Not just British ones. All political dramas are a dull chore to watch. The subject is just dry, bland, and boring.

Crime dramas are a close second on the mind numb scale.
WoodyAq · M
@MethDozer I kinda like crime dramas, at least of the "whodunnit" variety.
MethDozer · M
@WoodyAq I like mysteries but I kinda draw a distinction between mysteries and crime dramas.

Like Law and Order or things like it? Pass me the thorazine drip please.
WoodyAq · M
@MethDozer I really only liked the Law half of L&O.
