Did the Ringwraiths scare the absolute shit out of you when you first saw lord of the rings?

In the later movies they didn't bother me because things were already pretty nasty, but when they were roaming around the shire they were fricken terrifying! I mean the thought of those damn things lurking around safe and decent places!!!
