I have PTSD myself but what does the C stand for in you C-PTSD?
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@WillaKissing "complex"..my understanding is that it is very similar, or even perhaps the same, as borderline personality disorder. it is a common outcome for people who have suffered narcissistic abuse
@WillaKissing complex

@MyMonstersAreReal Thank you.
@WillaKissing it’s from repeated and sustained trauma. It does weird things to the brain.

@JustGoneNow Thank you. My PTSD counselor/therapist never or had not labeled mine as complex yet anyways, but yes it does do weird things to the brain. From childhood through my military career, it has all been severe Violence. I posted it on my white board here.
@WillaKissing I have not listed much of mine but it is very triggering, so it’s best I not unless I want to spiral. I’ve posted about many of my other challenges but not that.

@JustGoneNow Please do not spiral and please do not read my whiteboard posting if it will trigger you. That is that last thing I want to have ever happen.

@WillaKissing it may be because cptsd can’t be officially diagnosed in the us, because it’s not a diagnosis in the dsm5. Hopefully it will be added soon
@itsok I been reading about the CPTSD and it seems that often times that diagnosis is also for long term childhood trauma, so it would be good to be added to dsm-5. I thought for sure my papers had the CPTSD but they do not, just PTSD. This article I’m reading said the WHO’s ICD-11 includes it but the dsm-5 decided not to add it as a separate diagnosis because 92% of people with complex PTSD also met the criteria for the more general cluster of symptoms included in the PTSD diagnosis. I’m done reading for today btw. lol
@itsok the article was very dense.

@JustGoneNow yup. Your mental health provider can even ascribe cptsd to you, and you can work on it with your trauma therapist, they just can’t officially diagnose.
Which I think is hindering the care of so many with cptsd
Which I think is hindering the care of so many with cptsd
@itsok yeah, that’s why I was confused about my diagnosis. I truly thought it was on there because they talked about it as such. But you were right. Lead me to a rabbit hole of reading online, though. So, I think I’m done internet article reading.
@itsok and if even 8% fall into CPTSD but not the broader PTSD, those people are left without care at all for it. That’s sad.
