Sometimes you have to let go... no matter how hard...

I love my friend but her PTSD is affecting my metal health and I feel so bad for distancing myself. 😞

There's a rule for a passenger overboard. Succinctly, it's "Throw, row, tow, go." It's a means of keeping a rescuer from becoming another victim. First, keep distance and toss something. If that's doesn't work, close distance between victim and rescuer. Attach yourself to the end of something the victim can also attach himself to and lastly - lastly - swim out to meet the victim in the danger zone.

There are different levels of help. Care and concern are at one end of the spectrum, taking them by the hand through life would be another end. If your mental health is suffering, you can no longer be of assistance to your friend. Maybe it's a little compassion fatigue setting in and will it'll ebb and flow. Maybe you've recognized a hard line in the sand for you. Feel badly about the situation and for your friend, but don't feel badly that you can't keep pace on the road she's walking. Some stretches we need to manage solo until we grab the right help.

@Graylight Thanks very much for your kind advice. This means a lot to me.

PTSD and CPTSD can be extremely hard to cope with and of course affect our ability to relate well with others. Some matters need professional support but I hope she retains some level of connection with friends, that they feel able to cope with.

@PhilDeep She doesn't have many friends. And she's still going through a very challenging time at the moment. And I seriously don't know how to help me apart from saying, "I am sorry you are going through this."

@Gangstress She doesn't have anyone.. and complains about being so alone. It's so debilitating to see her suffer. Thank you for your feedback. I wish you well always.

Tough choice with neither answers being good ones. Is there some way to briing your friend's family to share in the support?
Tinkerxbell · 41-45, F
@Heartlander She's been seeking a professional help upon her Mum's request, and she's not happy about it. 😞

Take care of yourself first or you cant care for others. You're not a bad person for it, promise 🙏🌹

@Eklipse Thank you. I appreciate your kind reassurance.
