Has anyone had therapist that mainly listens to you/nods?

My last two or three did this, and my current one, while very kind .. does this as well. I am there to get feedback, tips and affirmations, anything that can aid this healing of severe PTSD. I am not sure why or if they believe EVERY patient only wants a sounding board or just a pair of ears? I have major trouble speaking up too, that is part of my severe anxiety. I feel so awkward asking for what I need, with anyone really :( But I guess you just need to find that 'right' therapist, that really CARES to go forth MORE with you and ask questions, or show they are wondering about connecting the dots in your past, to how you are NOW. Anyone else go through this ?

The first therapist I went to literally just sat there doing nothing, I suppose waiting for me to talk? Didn't try to get me to talk, prompt me, engage whatsoever, just sat there staring at me. Little 10 year old me didn't understand what was going on, and was even shyer than current me, so we literally would just sit there staring at each other for an hour. Luckily, didn't go to her very long.

@SarahAndSamantha How on earth is that therapy????😯😢

@Coralmist I still don't know. The one after her was much better. helped me open up quite a bit and even kinda made it fun. Well, I mean, as fun as that stuff gets, y'know

@Coralmist Spanking therapy is the best, it works.

@SarahAndSamantha Right. It should be interactive, not the client ONLY doing all the talking and grappling all on their own how to make sense of their life, or anxietyetc. I think that is what many therapists' style is: just let the client do 'all' of it on their own. Then WHY am I coming for HELP??? I'm not saying tell me all of life or every decision, etc. But to offer some actual affirmation or tools maybe once a session or more. seems feasible.

@Switching Ya'll will fetishize literally anything, won'tcha?
SarahAndSamantha · 51-55, T
@Coralmist Exactly. Breakthroughs and the like should ultimately come from the patient, but it's the therapists job to get them there

@SarahAndSamantha It's not fetishizing, it's life itself.
