Because this is a place where people don't necessarily really know you, so you can be yourself, someone else, seek help, meet others going through the same thing etc.

SW-User
Sites like this one attract people with issues because it's a community where people can talk and express themselves. They can form connections much more easily than on the likes of Facebook or X. The site doesn't make people depressed, depressed people look for sites like this.
spencer6 · 18-21, F
@SW-User I don’t think I’ll ever be fully over twitters name change because whenever I read X I just think it’s a placeholder for a sec until I decipher lol and yeah I agree
@SW-User I never said the site caused it.

@TheEmperor sometimes that’s exactly what they do. Misery lives company.
melissa001 · 51-55, F
@TheEmperor I respect your reply. But that's not my case.
@melissa001 just to be clear, I said sometimes… meaning some do.
Matt85 · 36-40, M
So many
And I feel every wound.
@Matt85 I’m sorry. Be strong and resist it.
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
Chronically online, I don't think most here are depressed, at least not on a regular basis. People just vent here when they are.
@Rolexeo That may be but trust me that plenty here have told me they were or admitted it on the question board. It’s here enough that I’d say many here are!
AlchemyFox · 36-40, F
I think a lot of people here don't go moping around IRL. We just let our true feelings out here
@AlchemyFox But one should know his or her friends well enough.. that they’d know. At least that’s my case.
spencer6 · 18-21, F
Despite from it being the site itself inviting to went due to its anonymity (other comments tysm) I think that there also a lot of depressed or sad, desperate in any way kind of people in general if you think about all the stuff going on rn, wishing you everyone else reading this an amazing day and remember that you are loved dearly
JovialMoose · 46-50, M
A lot of people might be depressed. SW (like previous apps and sites) help you express that anonymously.

There are friends abound to support everyone.
@JovialMoose sounds feasible
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Those who aren't depressed have much better things to do with their life.
triviaenthusiast · 56-60, M
@CrazyMusicLover Not always; I will elaborate further at a later time.
@CrazyMusicLover I’m not depressed but I still come here too often.
Fertilization · 36-40, F
People who are already depressed come here. Probably looking for a safe haven.
@Fertilization sounds feasible to me.
LittleBallOfFire · 22-25, F
I think because it's a space where people can vent about their feelings anonymously
UndercoverBard · 31-35, M
I don’t think it’s unique to SW
@UndercoverBard Well for me it is… I mean I could say social media in general but I’m not in contact with depressed people in my offline life…
UndercoverBard · 31-35, M
@NoGamesTolerated could be a lot of factors that affect that.
People might not want to show they’re depressed to people they know in real life.
People may not have the same depressed feeling when they are out in the real world as they do when sitting around by themself
I think that time spent by oneself is when most people feel depressed the most. People who are out and about in the world more may not have as much of that time.

Just some thoughts. Idk if people here are any more depressed than normal and if so what the cause would be for sure
@UndercoverBard I hear ya but I respectfully disagree. I know the people in my life well.

Because they are tired of trying too many times to Impress
they watch too much TV
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout ya think? Hmmm leave the boob tube alone. Lol
triviaenthusiast · 56-60, M
From personal experience I can tell you that depression can be either/or/and event/neurologically based-I have had both, Fortunately-over the last 40 years-via a combination of medicinal anti depressants and clinical psychological talk therapy-I am now a happy person. :)
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
TEOTWAWKI is arriving.
@therighttothink50 It is indeed arriving but being depressed will not change it. But even before all of this came to light, I think depressed people migrated to online websites. Just what I think…tho!
TheFragile · 46-50, M
@TheFragile I can see that.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
I think it's everywhere

not going outdoors enough and having avoided manual labor to where the mesolimbic system isn't 'calibrated' anymore....along with drugs & alcohol, ofc.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@speefw00f112 I've seen some depressed people who claimed to have a hard manual job. They felt like it was a dead end job with no perspective for progression in life.
speefw00f112 · 31-35, M
@CrazyMusicLover yeah well, that's THEIR issue in having a vain sense of higher purpose. my job sucks in the same sense, tho mind you i can smoke onsite as much as i want, so..

🤷🏻‍♂️
darkmere1983 · 46-50, M
who knows..who cares, as long as i'm alright jack.
@darkmere1983 who’s Jack?
lumberjackslam · 41-45, M
