Maybe the question should be Why do you feel the need to be a character ?
What's wrong with you being just you ?

@Picklebobble2 That's a good point. If we shed off who we are, and just let us be. Maybe depression can't happen?

@Queendragonfly if Carrey were making that statement after having done Ace Ventura or The Mask I could probably understand it.
Both are headaches to watch let alone be the star of.
All that manic energy must have been exhausting and the idea that he was having to be these characters rather than something a bit more life-like would certainly have any actor questioning their sanity.
But he has had some good roles too.
Some in some quite clever stories.

It depends. The issue isn't that simple for everyone.

@QueenOfZaun True. I hear some people describing it as they are lost and they don't remember walking anywhere to begin with. Or like it's a thick mist witjh no start or end.

I am the public character I am to hide the depression. It was there before I learned to play a character who is without it.

I'm pretty sure Jim understands depression better than a lot of folks.

@LordShadowfire That's my impression too. And Robbin Williams.

@Queendragonfly The people who try the hardest to make everyone laugh are usually the ones in the most pain.
