mr purple~ I was taught as a child that there is a God, if you wish to call that indoctrinated, so be it. I was raised by an abusive alcoholic father, who used to chase my mother out of the house with a gun in his hand.I was sexually interfered with at about 7 years old by a neighbors son, then again at 13 by an older boy at school, so I know a little about what I am talking about. Years went by and much water ran under the bridge. Then one day after many years, I came to the point where I was empty inside, and I called out to the Jesus I had been introduced to so many years before. It was a small prayer, one that anyone but Him would think insignificant. It went something like this: Lord, is there nothing else for me in this world except for what I have experienced so far? I had a loving husband, a business of my own, a new home, a new car, and all the things that people think will bring them success & happiness, but my soul was EMPTY. He heard my cry and He answered my need. When I awoke I wanted to go to church for the first time in many years, and I knew where I wanted to go. That was the beginning of my walk with Him, that was in June of 1985. I have been thru many things since that time, but He has always been faithful to see me thru, and I wouldn't take anything for my journey now. Jesus is my best friend.

@Grandad: What's childish is mocking someone's belief system. Everyone is entitle to a personal set or mores derived from their beliefs of the world. Those who criticize are often threatened by something.

@silverwings: I appreciate your belief that cutting is the result of an unclean spirit. Unfortunately, the entirety of the medical and psychological community disagree. The best evidence for cutting as a psychological disorder is the fact that it's helped and cured with psychological counseling and treatment.

That guy (if he was even real) died a long time ago. So even if that guy was real he's long gone, besides prophets were a dime a dozen back then. Do you know Ozzy? He kicks Ass, and he can do something for you. Listen to his music!

mr purple~ It is my belief that God only intervenes when asked, He responds to faith, that was the way it was set up from the beginning. And Satan has been around since the beginning of time, spreading his influence on mankind.God is working on a new Heaven and earth, where all sin will be wiped out. We are in school right now, learning and deciding whether we will follow God or his arch enemy Satan.If you have faith the size of a mustard seed you can move mountains of defeat out of your life.

Yes, absolutely because this is a result of mans inhumanity toward man, and will continue until God does away with the evil that is causing all of this destruction, until then we are forced to live in this world full of evil , but on the bright side, we can do everything within our power to alleviate the suffering of anyone God brings across our path, and that includes the ones in Africa, India, and all the other countries that are suffering terribly.

Can we end all suffering. NO...but we can do what we each have the power to do, and if we will only do that, we can make a difference, and if everybody did what they and they only could do , what a wonderful world this would be.

mr purple~ God gave us a conscience to guide us, to help us to know right from wrong, later he gave us His Holy Spirit , when we come to the place that we desire more of Him, He gave us the Bible as a guide, and finally He gave Himself, yet those who are created in His image , mock Him, and say all kinds of derogatory things about Him, they choose their own way over His over and over. He is keeping records of all of our deeds, whether good or bad, and one day a reckoning is coming, All evil originates with the father of lies, Satan himself. We choose daily whom we will follow.

I agree with lacsar !!! leave the kids alone !! the bible is mythology, fiction !!! jesus can't help , he's not real , kind of like santa claus !!

I sincerely apologize Oconnor and to Silverwings I did not mean to offend anyone but it has been my experience that with people like this you have to just get to the point. No sense beating around the bush. I believe there is some kind of psychological aspect to this believing in things that are clearly not true . I can't say I really understand it at all but I do believe it does not do our world or our societies any good at all. Look at how long religion has been around and has anything changed at all. There is death , hatred , rape , disaster , war, starvation just to name a few still going on every day. Just awhile back I learned the number of people starving to death everyday has actually increased. Don't tell me it's part of god's plan , that's a bunch of bull. I am only trying to share what I have learned on my road to gnosis. I used to be a Christian and don't tell me I'm a back slider that's a bunch of bull to. I learned and my eye's are opened, religion does more damage to our world than it ever did good.

Satan isn't real honey!! and sin is just a word made up to try to explain something we just can't grasp. If god supposedly made everything including satan then how could satan possibly be able to thwart gods power ? I know , I know it's all part of gods big plan. Like I said before I feel sorry for you. Were you indoctrinated as a child ? It's really hard to shake all that crap out of your head , but you can start by considering that just maybe , just maybe it isn't true. There are lots of great informational documentaries online . But I am sure you will not ever watch any of them. This is just one of the many things I hate about religious people. They don't realize that they are displaying mental issue's. Yes it makes people mental. Please educate yourself, and i don't mean go to church. You will never learn the truth there. I hope you can snap yourself out of it one day. Your just like my mother !! dumb.

Grandad - Just like everyone else, you're entitled to your opinion and belief. No worries, no offense taken. I heard someone say once that two people can be diametrically opposed on an issue but still manage to be kind to one another. That's all I'm looking out for.

Jesus compels you to cut?

I'm not a believer, but I have to argue this: why do we expect God to behave according to the morals and values that we created and placed upon ourselves? Regardless of what God does or does not do, there is no governing body above him that decides if it's right or wrong.

Silverwings, I appreciate the conviction of your faith and I do believe in a power greater than myself, but cutting is a psychosocial issue and a recognized mental health disorder. Sometimes neurochemistry and genes are involved. This is a problem that needs to be dealt with on a cognitive, not a spiritual level. Faith can aid in any recovery process, but as the old adage says, "Trust in God but tie your horse." Do the work you need to first; God will handle the rest.
