@Grandad: What's childish is mocking someone's belief system. Everyone is entitle to a personal set or mores derived from their beliefs of the world. Those who criticize are often threatened by something.

The best evidence for cutting as a psychological disorder is the fact that it's helped and cured with psychological counseling and treatment.
