I don't like seat belts. They tie me up
beththesloth · 18-21
@nobodyishome agreed! I prefer the seatbelt to the harness but it’s still uncomfortable

@beththeslothI don't like seatbelts, either, but at least the discomfort of wearing a seatbelt is better than the alternative.

Maybe something like this might help?

-----
I always wear polo shirts with collars (I find them comfortable). Yet they also catch the seat belt (under the collar) and keep it off my neck! Maybe that might work?

-----
Addendum: I just chatted with Google's AI on its search engine, and it argued fiercely that putting the belt under my polo shirt collar is dangerous! Sheesh. Apparently it can curl the belt when it should be flat. A curled belt is not as effective as a belt that lies flat against me chest. Argh!

[@benthesloth] Some seat-belt top mountings have limited height adjustent so if yours are so fitted, experiment with that.

Seat belts do not "stretch". They are on inertia reels to allow normal leaning forwards but lock under sudden acceleration of the wearer - not of the car, but of the occupant relatively to it, as in a collision.
Just put it under your arm. If its so high up its on your neck or face you're gonna get way more hurt if you wreck than if its lower on your ribs. Also i have this same annoyance its the only way I get through.
@beththesloth I understand! Only had the one incident about a decade ago now. And that was in a teeny tiny town full of morons. Never had anyone else even mention it if I get stopped. I'm a bit small and my bones break easily, id rather the broken ribs over a broken neck. I'm too tall to need a booster seat like short women with this problem. That could also be an option rather than the harness maybe? 🤷‍♀
beththesloth · 18-21
@boklenholley7 a booster seat is good idea. Thank you! I'll ask my mum ☺
@beththesloth good luck i hope you find something that works!

That's how seatbelts felt to me when I was 5 years old.

Like once it was on, i felt it digging into the side of my neck.
AdmiralPrune · 46-50, M
You’re never going to grow up to be a pilot or an astronaut or a racing driver, are you?
nobodyishome · 31-35, F
@AdmiralPrune you can be whoever you want to be :)
AdmiralPrune · 46-50, M
@nobodyishome Not if the feel of seatbelts bother you
beththesloth · 18-21
@AdmiralPrune No I don’t, they sound scary
coolnudist · 70-79, M
On the door post where the seat belt comes out there is a button that you can press that lets the seatbelt adjust up and down. Maybe you should try to adjust it down and it won't be on your ear.
beththesloth · 18-21
@coolnudist Thank you ☺ I tried it and it’s off my ear more but still on my neck
