At the time said it cannot be with anything other than intent and sentiment. I mean, it could be argued that we never forget anyone who we spend a lot of time with but that doesn't mean that we'll want to remember them or will actively think of them and that's the thing. We simply can't say how meaningful someone is likely to be to us after a long time apart except where that person is a cherished family member. I've felt a lot about people who I honestly don't think about anymore. Yet there is one person who I was very sure I'd never forget and never have and likely never will.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Depends on how thoughtful a person is really. Thoughtful people tend not to forget, thoughtless people tend to forget everyone, including themselves. Most people are shallow as well.
So to answer your question, statistically, I'd say yeah mostly people do basically forget. But some do mean it and you or someone else could remain on their minds for a long time, maybe forever.

I’ll never forget my lost loved ones. But I’m thinking you mean it in a different context, like something said upon ending a relationship.

I think it depends on the context, the character and depth of the individuals involved, and if the context is the breakup of a romantic relationship, then also which party is actually saying it (the person ending things or the other person)
But absolutely it can be true, intensely true at the time it is said, intensely felt years after saying it
I cannot fathom why anyone would ever say it to somehow soften the blow of ending a romantic relationship, especially if the relationship had been of a depth and length where the recipient of the news would easily know how sincere the person uttering it would be about anything, even if it is meant sincerely it's not going to soften anything

I don't forget people I've had a relationship with but that's not a huge number so fairly easy to do; I also rank them sometimes so maybe not always the best if they knew but that's just games I play in my head.

It is true. Often I even recall an old neighbour or schoolmate, ir even a boyfriend. You can't just forget people.

I think it’s true in many cases… I know I have said it and meant it!

It is probably true. As old as I am, I remember all of the people I ever had any kind of friendly relationship with.
funfan · 51-55, M
Definitely true, yet love comes in many forms.
HowtoDestroyAngels · 46-50, M
I don't believe it. I've been told that and forgotten without a trace.
ReneeT · 61-69, F
I truly think it would be the tone in which it was said.

Probably more true than not. Depends on the context. I have a shit memory but remember those I truly loved and hated. 🤔. Probably those that did me wrong more so

Whether or not one’s being remembered fondly might be a different conversation. 😅
