What can you do with left over steak?

I had great ambitions yesterday .
I was gonna cook up this bad boy and make a complete pig of myself.
Look at that baby, nearly 2 inches thick and won't fit on a dinner plate properly 🤩

Apparently however ...... stomachs have limits no matter how much you convince yourself otherwise.

I ploughed thru half of this, but what do I do with the other half ? I don't want to cook it any further and ruin it , so what does one do with cold steak ?

Make a sandwich. Or chop it up really fine and make steak quesadillas.
@Notsimilarreally oooh, the quesadillas sounds a good idea .
And quick.
Quick is good .👍

@Notsimilarreally @OogieBoogie this was going to be my suggestion. Grilled steak is great in a quesadilla

Cut it up and serve over greens with tomatoes and blue cheese. Epic steak salad!
@Harmonium1923 blue cheese?
I have somw of that in the back of the fridge !

That sounds like a go-er. I have all those ingredients right now.

Great timing ....it's 4:30 and I'm just trying to think what to do for dinner tonight .

Cheers mate - think I'll give that a burl tonight 👍

@OogieBoogie Glad I could help. Enjoy!

There is a delicious cold salad you can make. Slice the leftover steak as thin as you possibly can, and place it on top of a salad...(greens, sliced tomatoes, sliced onions, and cucumbers and thick crunchy croutons), sprinkled liberally with either roquefort or bleu cheese crumbles, and top with bleu cheese salad dressing. ☺️☺️☺️
@4meAndyou someone else mentioned this exact salad . It's what I ended up doing with some of it last night..... And it was delicious .
4meAndyou · F
@OogieBoogie They used to offer this salad at the 99 Restaurant, and I ordered it a couple of times...glad you agree!!!
Slice it for making sandwiches.
@PhoenixPhail ooh, nice idea .
But if I buy a loaf of bread ....imma gonna eat a whole loaf of bread 😂
Bread is my nemesis 😭
@OogieBoogie You can freeze both the slices of steak and the bread, and thaw them PRN.
slice it up very thin and use it in sandwiches, or make some fluffy eggs to go with it and reheat it in a microwave. I've been playing with sourdough attempts lately, I'd kinda wanna try to make some form of steak roll - like a sausage roll, but with a sizable slab of steak in the middle.

The last time I made good steak I used the leftovers in a burrito along with some halibut and it was SO effing good!! 😭
@MrBlueGuy hahaha....that sounds both horrific and amazing!😂
You never know what is going to work ...and the most unlikely things can work so well together.

Bet you will never be able to repeat it 😂
Such is the way with impromptu inspired dishes.
@OogieBoogie Yeah to happen to have both striploin and halibut at the same time and all the other ingredients and everything just cooked perfectly...it won't happen again...but that's ok xD Makes it more special haha
@MrBlueGuy it does .
It's funny.....my kids used to say that the best meals I ever made were the ones I called "bottom of the pantry specials" - where you just made good with what you had - all rules broken. You put stuff together you never thought you should 🤷

Maybe we need to think out of the box more often 🤔

I can see the problem. Australia Post lost my invite in the mail. 🤣🥩
@KiwiBird I'll invite you when I perfect it.🤗
I'm still working out how to cook it ' just right'.

You'de think I know how to a good steak by now 🙄, but I've never really been into meat much.
I've been on this meat frenzy lately - harassing the butcher and picking his brain. He's trying to convert me to having it medium rare 🤢
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@OogieBoogie Medium rare is about as cooked as I go....usually a lil rarer than that. With thick steak the trick is to get it to room temperature or even warmed through without cooking it before you start the actual cooking. A pilot light in a gas oven does the trick. Nothing worse than a rare steak cold in the middle.

I await the invite. Keep practising 😁😁😁😍
@KiwiBird this is the fine art I'm working on, that perfect time to take it out and sear the shit out of it.
I'm still over doing it a bit. 🫤

I will.
I'm kinda loving eating a nearly, if not all meat, meal - it seems to be easier on my system. Which is blowing me the fuck out as I always thought it was meat that was my problem .
Who knu eh 🤷

Till then☺️
Do you have a slow cooker ? Left over steak makes great stew meat....long and low, and add whatever you like
@FreeSpirit1 matter if fact I do !
I got one for Christmas 🤗
That's a good idea for winter- I'll remember that. 👍
I hate cooking when I get home from work in th dark .

Steak and eggs in the morning. Nuke it and eat it along with a couple of eggs any done any way you wish. With a piece of rye toast and jam it is a breakfast fit for a king.................er Queen.
@bowman81 that would be an excellent high protein breakfast ....or brunch.
OldBrit · 61-69, M
Normally I use it for a sandwich or make a curry with it
If I didn't think I was going to eat it I'd put it outside for the cats in the neighborhood.
@Spoiledbrat that's a nice and kindly thought .
Livingwell · 61-69, M
Stir fry. Add veggies and your favorite sauce.
GerOttman · 61-69, M

Beef stroganoff
@SW-User you know, I don't think I've ever specifically made that. It's beef in a creamy sauce isn't it?
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Eat it, I guess, I dunno.
Leftover? What new devilry is this? 😜
@NudasPriest 😂🤣
Hey!

It wasn't for lack of effort or trying ....I had great ambitions that I was gonna destroy this baby!😌

I second the quesadilla idea.
Lilnonames · F
I'll chop it in small pieces fry with onions peppers. Fry some burritoes in butter add tomatoes cheese jalipino roll up and dip in garlic butter
@Lilnonames that sounds nice, but maybe over rice . Garlic butter sounds awesome 👍
@Lilnonames you know, the butcher cut this for me esp.....i asked for one mother fucker of a steak 😂
He looked in his display, pointed a finger in th air and went into the back, and came out out with this sucker . I wish I'd weighed it .

@Sojournersoul ok, yeah, that sounds right up my alley as I eat a lot of greens .
didn't think to warm it up a little before hand.👍
Actually - this is a good idea for work days - I hate coming home to have to cook .

Cheers☺️
