@jshm2 I love this response. I find it encouraging and uplifting. Thank you for posting this.
@tactical360 lots of uncalled-for insults.

I always hope for the best but expect the worst. That way I’m not so disappointed. I’ve also learned only I am the person who can truly make me happy
Well, maybe some hopes were based on misconceptions. Not everything will go wrong though. Sometimes we get tired and everything just seems too much, make sure you give yourself some time to rest. Then go about doing things with a clearer mind.

I'm wondering the same. I'm always hopeful tomorrow some pleasant surprise will happen, but it very rarely does, and when it does it doesn't last. And yet I'm keep hoping.

Because hope is needed to reach the shores from turmoil and waves of deep water.

Keep pushing through! The stoics teach us that sometimes the only way to deal with obstacles is to go straight through them. Let your positivity shine bright and dampen out the shadows, you got this!! Big hugs to you!!

Feel the same way lately. Might as well laugh about it. This is how I can relate to it.

I don't mean to sound contradictory to your post "Why do I ever get my hopes up? Nothing ever goes my way", but there is something exceedingly important that you have to understand and that is, everything actually DOES go our way!
What I mean is, things don't happen TO us, things happen BY us.
Whatever we have going on in our life, WE brought it to ourselves, be it good stuff or really bad stuff. It's called The Law of Attraction. Our world becomes what we think.

This quoted advice below was mistakingly sent to me by @tactical360 when it was intended for you, Justbekind24.
for what it's worth, here's a little something I picked up I my Applied Psychology class in the fall of '86 :
"Act the way you want to feel, and pretty soon you'll feel the way you act."
Hope this helps.
