I don't mean to sound contradictory to your post "Why do I ever get my hopes up? Nothing ever goes my way", but there is something exceedingly important that you have to understand and that is, everything actually DOES go our way!

What I mean is, things don't happen TO us, things happen BY us.

Whatever we have going on in our life, WE brought it to ourselves, be it good stuff or really bad stuff. It's called The Law of Attraction. Our world becomes what we think.

@swirlie for what it's worth, here's a little something I picked up I my Applied Psychology class in the fall of '86 :

"Act the way you want to feel, and pretty soon you'll feel the way you act."
