The thought of non-existence isn't pleasant.

robertsnj · 56-60, M
i have people in my life who died in their elder years and their lives towards were so tough--constant pain and discomfort. It seems like non existing anymore was a better option for some of them at some point. I figure we will all get there at one time in different ways. from illness, a car accident something where existence is physically painful and unplesant.

we are so lucky that modern medicine can give us a long stretch but maybe it is only as good as the comfort that can accompany it?
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@robertsnj I agree. If they can't stop or at least slow the aging process, a longer life isn't worth it.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
I think there are probably a thousand or more answers to that. I would like to be with my mom, aunts, grandmas, and my husband again.
Matt85 · 36-40, M
cause ceasing to exist is sad for the people left behind
but then again you wont be there to care.
also it would be nice to see our dead relatives and pets again...
also the good aspects of life are worth it
faery · F
Fear of death? Fear of missing out?

I have both but have no interest in living forever, unless I can stop the aging process. I don't want to become old and stay old for an eternity. The earth won't last that long anyway.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@basilfawlty89 I absolutely love all this. The only downside I see, as @faery was wondering, is that we all know these treatments will be available for the rich first.
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
@LordShadowfire sadly, yeah.
That's a big problem. We need to start reorganizing society and the economy.

That, and delays.
You see...the close-minded people against gene editing, vaccines and stem cells are actually delaying this technology.
Stem cells don't even need to be reprogrammed from embryos anymore.
They could now take an adult's skin cells, grow it, and hit the Yamanaka Factors and it actually becomes pluripotent stem cells

@basilfawlty89 Amazing. I can't wait to get outta work to read all about it. Just to live a healthier life while alive would be wonderful. I just wonder how the pendulum comes to rest in the center, because mankind exploits everything under the sun. As @LordShadowfire says, of course the rich will benefit first. And, if I'm being realistic, the poor may never have full access. It could change how we view every aspect of humanity, though, for sure.
One person I know who does has said so many changes are taking place in the world daily. A human being’s lifetime (he says) is hardly time enough to witness even a fraction of it.
Nevertooold · 56-60, M
Exactly!!!
RosaMarie · 46-50, F
I want the stroy to keep going. I want to be around to see how thing change.
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
I do not want this, one life is enough for me
Lugwho · 61-69, M
I want to live forever
BlueVeins · 22-25
So I can play more skyrim, duh.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
I want to watch humanity evolve into something better. I fully recognize that this might mean I'm left behind in their evolution, but I still want to see it.

Plus I can't imagine a death that would be pleasant.

@LordShadowfire
Plus I can't imagine a death that would be pleasant.

Then, you wouldn't want to hang out with me at my parent's farm at Thanksgiving where I've served as the masked Executioner since I was 13! 🦃🪓
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@swirlie I can watch turkey deaths. I've watched fish deaths, and even participated in them. I have personally murdered crabs, and plan to do so this weekend. I just do not personally want to die.
swirlie · 31-35
@LordShadowfire
...in that case, you'd better let me handle the hatchet if you do not personally want to die... those things have a tendency to get in the way when we're trying to scratch or neck sometimes.
They must be happy with their life.
helenS · 36-40, F
To be is better than to not be, that's why.
ABCDEF7 · M
Because they are happy in their life, and want this feeling to continue.
Younameit · F
I think it will get a point on earth that living would be torture and you’d just want to end it. Probably there wouldn’t be any other humans left also, at one point we’ll most likely go extinct. Maybe in a thousand years or less.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
Too lazy to go through birth trauma again. And again. And again.
ToLivePeacefully · 31-35, M
Who wants immortality, unless I get some additional powers along with it.
YoMomma ·
Idk who wants that?
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
@YoMomma it’s because the alternative is so horrible
YoMomma ·
@Ferise1 hmm
better than dead!
They want to live forever and don't want to die. Immortality seems to be the easiest option
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@urbancowboy
For those who believe they go to a better world, the belief is that it will not be like this one. with no hate, tears, or pain. I guess. I wonder why someone would rather go into oblivion than live?
@Justmeraeagain Good question
