It's good that he had a change of heart but that doesn't excuse him and other conservatives for being dumbas$es and voting for it to begin with

@CountScrofula medical experts, medical shmexperts, what do they know, compared with politicians 😩? Grrrr
damselfly · 100+, F
@CountScrofula yes but MORALS! More important than life, health, well-being, happiness, compassion, freedom of choice, bodily autonomy, viability - what do experts know about morals anyway? Are they priests? Are they politicians? No! Therefore their opinions dont matter
damselfly · 100+, F
@CountScrofula to be fair he probably didnt bother investigating or listening. I mean, it's never going to affect his physical or mental well-being so why would he need to look any further?

What?! You mean our horrible inhumane policies are hurting people in the real world?!

Boy howdy people who campaigned for this ban for 40 years sure as fuck didn't know what the hell it is they were campaigning for huh.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@CountScrofula Not for lack of trying to tell them. They just didn't want to hear it.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@LordShadowfire Oh no, the refusal to listen was deliberate and cruel.
damselfly · 100+, F
@CountScrofula but MORAL!
Damn, he figured out that laws have consequences.
I'm sorry he lost sleep, but I hope he realizes its a bigger problem when he doesnt realize all laws ultimately have impacts on real people and that public office is a responsibility and not a privilege.
If abortion wasnt a tough issue, with pluses and minuses on both sides, I kind of think it wouldn't still be an issue.

This is the end result of kissing trump's and the partisan Right's ass......to block vote over common sense.....with zero concept of the outcome or damages caused by HIS vote...........to get votes.

I think many republican pro lifers are kind of like this, they don't consider their actions because they are too emotionally wrapped up in the "idea" of a baby stemming from religious values that they don't consider anything else. Yes he had the paperwork that told him it was a bad idea but the whole "life" argument tends to make them overly emotional and overly emotional people don't make logical decisions even with all the information.
It's just too bad that someone else had to suffer FOR them to realize that.
I said at first that I think he deserves to never sleep again but then I thought to myself, well if he truly felt empathy, he'll have to live with the fact that his decision directly caused that in someone else. That's a fair punishment I think, having to deal with that for life. It's very fitting. It's not that I wish ill on him or anything, just that these things are needed to make pro lifer's know the consequences.

I'm glad he's kept awake at night. May he never sleep well again.

Bit late to suddenly take the life, health and well being of the 'mother' into account, surely? These people exercise their power and cast their votes on purely moral judgement. Science, circumstances, expert medical opinion, compassion and personal choices don't matter a damn to them. Sanctimonious righteousness is sanctimonious righteousness

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Do you also cringe when people protest outside abortion clinics showing pictures of aborted fetuses? Lmfao, no, anti-choicers are never guilty of trying to “tug on people’s emotions”, jeez Louise smdh! I guess we’re only supposed to sympathize with little clumps of cells, huh, not actual living women.
TheOneyouwerewarnedabout · 46-50, MVIP
@Theyitis I should have clarified. I’m not talking about the pregnant person.
I’m talking about a republican pretending to give a shit about the pregnant person just to virtue signal on camera

There should be exemptions for cases where the mother’s life is at risk, and obviously this was one of those cases.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@Carissimi They have that, she didn't legally count she'd have to become sceptic first. "Maybe at risk in the future" doesn't cut it.

That’s too late. @CountScrofula

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Funny how so many of those 0.00000000001% cases seem to be making their way into the headlines lately. It’s almost like maybe they’re really not all that rare.
TheOneyouwerewarnedabout · 46-50, MVIP
am i stuttering?.
its not like the media would spend days digging and digging or even making shit up to push a narrative huh?
like the 10 year old who had to cross states to get an abortion.
few days later we find it was the mums bf and a illegal immigrant.
problems the dems created and could have been avoided got waaaaaaaaay left out of that hit piece huh?...

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Just because you don’t see it firsthand doesn’t mean the media made it up, I’d imagine they get out more than you do. It’s a big world outside your podunk town or gated community. But of course, if it weren’t for Democrats 10 year-olds would never get pregnant, just slap a Biden “I did that!” sticker on it.

@MalteseFalconPunch Yep almost certainly. As the GOP consolidates power I imagine there is going to be a pretty severe purge of people who are nonbelievers or disloyal to the cause.

Conservatives hear the word "abortion" and all their feeble little minds can conceive of is this simple monolithic on/off thing, when there is much more complexity and nuance around the subject. Collateral damage isn't something they can comprehend. Here's just another example:

Abortion bans complicate access to drugs for cancer, arthritis, even ulcers

Closing planned parenthood clinics in anti abortion states DOES affect access to other treatments. Treatments at these clinics often sought by the poorest non insured among us.
When I was a young and broke twenty something, planned parenthood saved my friend by catching her cervical cancer early. Imagine if they hadnt existed. She could have died. I guess closing those clinics is somehow prolife though.

CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@Carissimi It ABSOLUTELY closes off access to other treatments.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Good. Now if we can show that video to the rest of them, we might be able to get some progress made in returning to sanity.

Every law/rule has some exceptions and each should be looked at on it's own merit.
Abortion isn't usually cases like this one.
As for everyone who thinks Neal Collins will go to hell...that's not your call since those all for abortions may want to look up what leads to hell.

@SW-User > Abortion isn't usually cases like this one.
Yet anti-abortion sentiment is whipped up about "late term abortions" which is why this fetal heartbeat law exists in the first place. Yet, these kinds of abortions almost always occur when something has gone horribly wrong with a wanted pregnancy. Miscarriages are very common.
You cannot campaign about stopping late abortions, and then get horrified when you find out that there's an actual medical purpose to them.
