SpectralMourning · 41-45, M
@Tminus6453 No way is full synthetic only $35 unless that place is just into crazy going out of business charity lol.

@SpectralMourning it’s always good to know a friend that works on cars
I just had my CV axle replaced for $150
He’s going to charge me 100-150 to do the shocks and the caliper

Used to be about $95 for the car at a local independent place.. Now, I take the Bronco to the dealership and I've been using my points for oil changes so I don't know, (I didn't ask) but will probably find out this next time. I've nearly exhausted all the vehicle purchase points now.

I changed my own oil for many years. Until one year I changed the oil in one of my cars the day before I did my taxes. It was an extra expense I decided we could do easily. Then once a national chain made a minor error, I switched to having a new car lot service center do it.

I drive an EV now, but before that, yes, i preferred the synthetic versions, it cost more, but was said to last longer.
NativePortlander1970 · 51-55
@samueltyler2 Think about it, petroleum makes numerous synthetic products, from toys (plastic) to clothing (nylon, polyester), so what makes a synthetic oil? Seriously
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@NativePortlander1970 I know I had hoped it used less, but probably not. But, the mechanics did say it lasted longer between changes. Others told me that the real scam was the filter. They said that it really wasn't effective until about 1/3 to 1/2 of its lifespan.
NativePortlander1970 · 51-55
@samueltyler2 "synthetic" oil is a scam, a money maker, remember the Slick50 hype 35odd years ago that turned out to be nothing.

That depends how many quarts your vehicle takes. My car takes 5 quarts, and I JUST had it done.
