How much do you pay

for a full synthetic oil change where you are? No I don’t mean doing yourself.

I drive an EV now, but before that, yes, i preferred the synthetic versions, it cost more, but was said to last longer.
@samueltyler2 My second cousin's cousin was the lead warranty mechanic for Beaverton Honda back in the 80's and 90's, he told me that synthetic was nothing but a scam.

@NativePortlander1970 perhaps, but at the time the cost difference was negligible. As an environmentalist, if it meant less fossil fuel usage, I was very willing to spend the difference.

Looking back on it, the synthetic was a misnomer. It was still based on either crude oil or natural gas.
@samueltyler2 Think about it, petroleum makes numerous synthetic products, from toys (plastic) to clothing (nylon, polyester), so what makes a synthetic oil? Seriously

@NativePortlander1970 I know I had hoped it used less, but probably not. But, the mechanics did say it lasted longer between changes. Others told me that the real scam was the filter. They said that it really wasn't effective until about 1/3 to 1/2 of its lifespan.
@samueltyler2 "synthetic" oil is a scam, a money maker, remember the Slick50 hype 35odd years ago that turned out to be nothing.
