False rape claim

Should women face the same punishment as a man for falsely accusing a man of rape? Including but not limited to being placed on a sexual registry as well?

Not sure what this question is really about - or exactly why you're asking.

Fact is over 20 states and the District of Columbia already have specific statutes that make knowingly false criminal accusations punishable as felonies. They include -

California
Colorado
Delaware
Florida
Georgia
Hawaii
Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
Louisiana
Maryland
Michigan
Minnesota
Montana
Nevada
New Jersey
New Mexico
New York
North Carolina
Oklahoma
Tennessee
Texas
Virginia
Washington

And a conviction for perjury is subject to fines and/or imprisonment nationwide, under both state federal statutes. So, the suggestion that a woman (or another male) can falsely accuse a man of rape or abuse and "get away with it" is wrong. The laws are clear and the penalties are real.

Regardless of rumors there is no "epidemic" of women filing unfounded charges. In 2024 rape & assault cases actually fell by over 8%. But in fact what FBI and other crime studies consistently find is that year after year, only 5% of rapes are actually reported by victims.

People are out on registry to protect others, not as punishment. Certainly, a false accusation of rape can ruin a man’s life, just as a real rape can run a woman’s life. There is nothing fair about it either way.

No registry, and it depends on if she testified on the stand and swore to "tell the truth."
It is a crime to lie on the stand, and only then should she face charges.
@calicuz unless you are Rump, then you can lie anywhere and everywhere and nobody will touch you.
@JamesBugman that's usually the case of every politician including Joe Biden, Bill Clinton. Trump as you mentioned and many many others on both sides

Equal treatment under the law should mean false claim receives the same penalty as the offence.

Should be a register for those who make false claims as well as a sex offender register and the police should provide details if you have a valid reason to ask.

There is quite a severe punishment though...perverting the course of justice, perjury and wasting police time...all of which are charges that can be faced if malicious intent can be proven
Yes in terms of sentencing, assuming that their allegations are actually determined to be false rather than simply unproven. Putting them on the sexual offender's register wouldn't serve the community, but perhaps on a new register for known fraudsters and liars.
It's one of those things were something is really really bad and so false accusations of such are also very bad, but rarely treated that way

If everyone is same before law then definitely it should be.. question is of implementation..does it happen?
Whatever the punishment for false accusations is, they should be subjected to that- , it's probably a crime to falsely accuse people.
Rape isn't that special except in fancy prep academies where presidential material like Brett Kavenaugh, goes to school.
Yes, that's already the law.
It seems there should be some kind of deterrent to stop women from falsely accusing someone of rape. Not sure there is at the moment?

What happens in those situations where the rape actually occurred but couldn't be proven on some technicality... She's going to be punished
@Convivial just because an accusation was made doesn't mean someone has to be convicted one way or the other. There's a large dead zone between the accused getting punished for the offence and the accuser getting punished for defamation
Convivial · 26-30, F
@BiscuitBandit I honestly don't know tbh if the same punishment should be inflicted, that is the same about of gaol time... Some certainly...
Convivial · 26-30, F
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP I certainly it should be more than deformation which is a civil offence and not a criminal one
They should do time like the guy they falsely accused would do

Someone has to be a complete psycho to make false accusations of rape! I think it's already a felony in most states/countries.
