High drape pants like those from the 1940s

HumanEarth · F
@rinkydinkydoink and everyone wore fedoras
@HumanEarth

No kidding - I watch a ton of old movies and I'm always thinking the fedora and pinstripe suit industries had it made back then...
HumanEarth · F
@rinkydinkydoink A good beaver or wool felt fedora are hard to find now days.

When I was kid, there used to be little hat shops in every neighborhood. Now there's none

Books. With AI algorithms taking over everything and doom scrolling ruining our mental health, I think people will inevitably get bored by machines running our lives and seek to disconnect with something more personal and engaging. Books are cheap, portable, and provide hours of content. It's one of the best ways to read something that isn't hastily produced clickbait or trying to convince us how terrible everything is
@TinyViolins But somewhere we are inherently lazy, and we love that easiness. A book may be such a discrete and engaging time but people need instant feedback now. Imagine all of SW just reading a book quietly to themselves, without posting here? They'd be entirely lost by themselves.

@awildsheepschase You have a valid point. I don't think books are going to replace or supplant social media, but I get the sense that there is growing number of people who long for an alternative that feels much more authentic. It doesn't necessarily have to be novels. Books can serve as a vehicle for people to pursue hobbies, interests, and politics from a less artificial perspective.

There are books on gardening, mental health, weight loss, dating, pet ownership, nutrition. Things that people are interested in but get convoluted by a deluge of search results and influencers looking to stand out. A book is neat, organized, thought out, and can give people time to chew on and digest new information that ultimately benefits their life.

Maybe it's hopeful thinking, but I think there is a real niche there with untapped potential

Club and venue culture. People meeting and having fun in real world, musicians realizing that programming music might be fun but there's much more soul in real music and turning to real instruments.

I like the days when they were called World Wide Wrestling Federation before 1980 when Vincent K. McMahon, the son of Vincent J. McMahon took over and changed wrestling forever.

He from day one he started buying up talent from his competition and then buying their companies. Then ending the days of territories
