No. I stockpiled nothing for that pandemic; and so-called "panic buying" is greedy and selfish.
Many shops rightly rationed the numbers of anything you could buy, to prevent such antisocial behaviour.
There were some temporary shortages of some goods early in the pandemic but otherwise I was able to shop adequately in the normal way, locally, without problems.
However, when first started living in my own home I did slowly build stocks of loo rolls, soap, household cleansers and lamp bulbs, simply buying two or large packs instead of one at odd times and when plenty were available. I was not forecasting external disasters but my own possible, future inability or incapacity, and indeed used some of these stocks when convalescing from two operations.
The lamp bulbs? Pointless as although I was not to know it at the time, the common room-luminaire filament types became still legal to use if you already have them, but not sell by way of trade, and were replaced by miniature flourescent and now l.e.d. versions. I kept a few but took most, about 30 or so, to the Council waste yard in a recent clear-out.
My folks always would stock up on sales before Covid. One of their staples toilet paper.
I was living in Melbourne during lockdown for Covid. Hardly anything was on the shelves. NO toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, pain medicine, cold medicine, masks, gloves, sanitiser, flour, sugar, pasta, rice, noodles, fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh milk, cereals, soups, eggs etc
We kind of already had a small stockpile of like 30 rolls. I ended up giving six rolls to a neighbor. The first few months of Covid dug into our stockpile but didn't deplete it, and we were able to restore it later in the year. Since then I've decided maintaining 30 rolls is good, but I doubt we have any 4 year old rolls around.
I've always had thing for making sure we have enough tp, so it was already normal for us to have plenty on hand, but I did increase the stock a little bit as the shortages worsened. Now I have no less than 50 rolls in stock all the time
I had a roommate who always insisted we have two months worth of toilet paper. I bought a package one morning and that day heard there was a shortage. So I went back to Family Dollar the next day and bought the last package of Charmin. We were fine.
