If you came across a dog locked in a car on a stinking hot day with all the windows up, what would you do?

This has happened to me. I was having a game of Golf with my Brother when we encountered a locked car beside the road with a dog locked inside. The windows were closed and it looked like the dog was suffering. We couldn't see where the owner was and was debating on whether we should try and break in just to open the window for the dog.
We stood there so long that a Passerby came up to see what was going on. And he agreed that we should try and open the door to wind down the window. This of course raised the question of whether the dog would attack since we would be breaking into its property. 2 more passerbyes showed up and just as we all decided to smash one of the windows. We had decided amongst us how we were going to pay for the window we were going to break. 😅 When the owner showed up.
Apparently there was a public toilet out of sight on the other side of the road that none of us had seen and he had gone in there to tend nature. Luckily he was as understanding as he was surprised at what this strange group of idiots were about to do to his car.

I know one guy whose dad once rescued a dog that was trapped inside a car by breaking the car window with his elbow and then reaching inside to take the dog out.

I’d smash the window, no question. I’m fairly sure the police advise you to do that

Id break the window

All depends really. If the dog seemed like it’s still ok I’d call 911 to get an officer to come deal with it. If the dog was in obvious distress and likely not to last until the cops got there I’d smash a window to save it.

Imagine you break the windows only to realize the car is running and the AC is on for the dog. 🤣

@Wallflow3r True, but we checked that. Strange as it sounds this situation, really did happen.

Where I live in the middle of summer and even late summer, the survival time for an animal or even a child left in the car unattended can be 10 min or less. With car interior temps reaching in excess of 160 deg. F.

I would have had the same thought process as you, potentially breaking the window to get the dog out. Once the dog was out I would then release the parking brake and push the car into a tree. Then I could say that the window broke on impact in a freak accident and the dog just happened to escape 👀🐶
He should have left all the windows open a few inches to allow for air circulation.🤬

@UnderLockDown That's still not enough to keep cool on a hot day.

Keep walking unless it was freaking out then i might try to alert someone that cares

This is good all around though ❤️

Call the cops. I’ve done it.

Perfect example of “not everything is as you think” smh 🤦🏻‍♀️

Check the condition of the dog. If doggy's tongue is hanging out, I would try the door. If the door doesn't work, I'm calling a rocksmith.
