Can you live on American food alone? American food is so boring. Imagine if there was no Filipino or Japanese or Chinese or Korean or Mexican or Italian or whatever else kine food? Boring!
I suppose truly "American" food would depend on where in the country you live. In your case, being in Hawaii, the food native to your area would be Polynesian, right? In my case, being from New England, the food native to my area would be very different.
Americanized versions of immigrant food, and a lot of African-American cooking. There's a pretty rich culinary tradition around the US it's just... scattered.
@SimplyTracie for some reason I cant eat just the fish without a rice ball under it. I have spent many many years learning how to do it - I even make my own rice.
I’ve heard that pizza actually originated in America and that it’s way better here than in Italy. Other than that, the first thing that comes to mind is corn.
@SimplyTracie lol I think the only American food might be Native American. Corn, beans, potatoes, venison. Ironically Chinese food was made in America I believe in California in the 19th century. Actual Chinese food is different.
@canusernamebemyusername California’s version of Chinese food isn’t Chinese food? How does that work? I guess we Americanize foods with our own flavors. 😋
If you are in a foreign country and go to a restaurant advertising "American cuisine," it will be the usual burgers and piazzas, maybe even Mexican food. But those who are NOT ignorant know there is no such thing but rather various regional cuisines like clam chowder and lobsters in New England, or Tex-Mex and Southwest cuisines (the two are worlds apart, southern-California cuisine etc. Even pizza has regional variations -- New York style? The aforementioned Chicago deep dish?
@ISpeakTheTruth I just wanted to know what is considered American food. What you and others thought anyway. Seems like the consensus is, if it’s made here, it’s American.
I can’t think of anything other than southern bbq and maybe some regional stuff like clam chowder. I always think of American food as bastardized cultural food. (chinese takeout, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, etc)
