What’s a scam so good that people don’t even realize they’re falling for it?

@BrandNewMan taxing the billionaires appropriately would be a good start to fund socialism.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@NerdyPotato @BrandNewMan
There is nothing wrong with either system (socialism/capitalism) except implementation.
@NerdyPotato Agree some tax evasion loopholes and other tax code issues need to be resolved. Also think more people need to be responsibly taking their own lives. Social programs should be a safety net .. not your base line for your whole life. That way less taxes are required of all citizens.

Bottled water

you're paying for the container,
buy a top quality filter and save some money
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
@AllycatAD that's what I did otherwise hubby was bringing bottles after bottles
GeniUs · 56-60, M
Nothing wrong with taxes.
Country A does not implement taxes and cannot afford an army (amongst many other things).
Country B implements taxes and raises an army and invades and conquers country A.

I don't think I can simplify it any more than that.
@MarbleMarvel especially the Dutch word for it: together life. That proved wrong over the past years.

Yard sale bag of stuff for six dollars but when you go to buy it dude says "that's not supposed to be out here" and picks out half the stuff...but it's still six dollars.

@Rolexeo if they can't help you, change the company
Insurance is only for peace of mind and help in need
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
@Donotfolowme no it isn't, when you actually need it they'll try to screw you over, not give you enough, not cover that, and jack up your rates anyways to compensate for what they did pay in damages. Total scam

Your vote matters
@Donotfolowme Begs the question of why so many are trying to stop certain people from voting if it doesn’t.
It matters to somebody.

carpediem · 61-69, M
"News". It no longer exists. Everything comes with a filter based on the ideological leanings of the "news" provider.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
@carpediem Definitely. Now, everything is an editorial posing as news.
Universal Credit... It is neither universal or a "credit".

Safety bs at work. Designed to cover the company’s a$$ not protect workers!
carpediem · 61-69, M
@gregloa designed to protect the company from getting fined by OSHA. Some of their guidelines are ridiculous. Others I agree with.

Self publishing. Every one can write a book and become a best selling author.

The best soft scam that makes many write books that never get read.

Amazon started this after it's own publishing companies ruined the publishing industry.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@in10RjFox Yep know somebody who did this, sold a few books then Amazon put his book on offer (less than publishing price) with 'free postage' and when they sold a few books billed him for the postage! He argued and one of their arguments was when they did it with the 'Katie Price' book she didn't complain- yeah they didn't give hers away just free postage.

Edit : His were hardcopy books.
in10RjFox · M
@GeniUs free postage to the customer but charged to the author. Hard copies keeps their printing line running. Some authors pay money to print in bulk like 100 copies or so. And give up unable to even sell 100 copies

So they made a business out of fooling newbie authors.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@in10RjFox We are on the same page; can confirm his book was bit niche but good I heard, cost him money of course.
