Interesting thing in the news, the American Supreme Court has let Trump off inciting an invasion of Congress, & the Capitol. Is democracy dead in USA?

Not being American I don't know the full import of this in America, but it seems the rule of law has been overturned!

Fascism will soon be mainstream in the United States, it seems.

Yes. It's done. Never worked entirely right ever, other than a bit here and there. Engine always ran a bit rough. But this one puts a .50 caliber right through the engine block.
I'd say it's a huge step in that direction, although, to paraphrase Monty Python, Democracy is not quite dead yet.

In theory, the American people could still reject Trump and Trumpism, and, over time, replace corrupt Trumpist Justices, but at the moment, the odds of that seem pretty slim, with Biden doddering and Trump and those who greedily want a piece of his action slobbering at the prospect of a second Trump term, this time without even the remote threat of the justice system interfering.

It's not just about Presidential immunity, either. This same court has made it clear that public officials can accept "gratuities" in exchange for prior payment.

It may not be dead, but it's in intensive care. What happens in the coming election will mean a lot. The thing is, so often when given a chance to vote, Americans will vote for democracy and freedom, but somehow the Republican right-wing keeps getting into power and stacking the courts, voting, etc. to keep trying to get rid of American freedoms and democracy. :(

Still trying to sell that bridge, eh? 😂

No. Look. The president is voted in by the electorate. Once that happens he needs the flexibility to govern as is necessary. He or even she can't spend weeks in court because the other side doesn't agree with his official acts. It would cripple democracy. If anything the court allowed the frivolous personal lawsuits against Trump to continue unabated which seems impartial. What's your bright idea?

@LordShadowfire looking at a woman is a crime now? 👀 that woman doesn't even know him personally. she seems unhinged.

The more the USA tries to persuade the rest of the world that it's the land of the free and home of the brave, the more the USA resembles the same Monarchy that it fled while under the thumb of King Charles III before they all turned and fled Great Britain in great earnest while in protest of Charlie's fascist, Monarchist regime.

All that we are witnessing here is a full-circle moment that's happening in the USA right now, that's all it is!

@swirlie It was king George iii you rebelled against, King Charles iii is the current king, set to be followed by William V
