Calm Down People- Especially Those Who Don’t Live Here

People- today’s Supreme Court ruling does not outlaw abortion. It returns the decision to the States. That’s all. There will be plenty of States where abortion will remain legal and some States have already started the process of expanding them. If you want an abortion and live in a State where they’re not available, travel to a State where it is. If you don’t like your State’s positions/laws on abortion, move to one that you agree with.

In the simplest terms look at marijuana. Some States have completely unregulated recreational use/possession, some have medicinal marijuana use/possession, and some have criminal penalties for use/possession. It’s a State by State decision.

Jesse, I respectfully disagree with you. 26 states are expected to ban abortion, leaving more than 33 million women without access to abortion care. At least 1 in 4 women will have an abortion by the time they're 45, and they choose to have abortions for many reasons, including medically risky pregnancies, unviable pregnancies, rape, incest, etc. Now, many will be forced to forego that choice, which history has shown, will put women’s lives at serious risk.

The end of Roe means the end of a constitutional right that, for nearly half a century, gave people agency over their bodies and reproductive choices. Already, the US has the highest maternal mortality rate of developed nations, and studies have shown that number could increase in the wake of abortion bans.

The end of Roe means the end of legal abortions in over half the states in the country. It doesn’t mean abortions end. It means more women will die because they have to seek other means.

This isn’t about life nor babies. It’s about control and economics. It’s about the will of a minority ruling over what the majority wants. 61% of Americans think abortion should be legal.

I never had to have an abortion, but I sat with friends who did. It was not a decision they made lightly. It was deeply personal and deeply painful, but it was the best decision in their circumstances. It should be between the woman, her partner if she has one, and her doctor. No one should have sovereignty over another’s body.

@Slade See my reply above. Women aren’t mentioned in the Constitution at all, despite the urging of Abigail Adams. It has been in operation since 1789 and is the world's longest surviving written charter of government. Times have changed over the last 223 years providing for freedom of ALL humans, not just rich, educated, white men. Its first three words – “We The People” – affirm that the government of the United States exists to serve its citizens.

So, yes, body autonomy IS an inalienable right for ALL people, not just white men.

@ChampagneOnIce groan. What could cement an argument better than another tiresome, irrelevant race card.

It’s the precedent this ruling has set Jesse. Women are in a constant state of having to defend themselves. This is just another slap, telling us we are not in control of our own bodies or health. And this is only the first ruling on a long agenda.

I fear for the freedom, privacy, and safety of my niece as she grows into adulthood.

@Pinkstarburst I commented this earlier- a woman knows when a man cums inside her and when she has an orgasm. Plan B pill is available at most pharmacies in every state. That settles the pregnancy issue 99.5 % of the time. If it doesn’t then many states will welcome them for an abortion. The biggest misconception with today’s ruling is abortion is now illegal nation wide.
Pinkstarburst · 51-55, F
@JesseInTX Most states have been anticipating this ruling to make it illegal in their state. There is also political talk of changes to funding birth control. To many groups, the plan B pill is a form of abortion.

Please know I’m not arguing for arguments sake. We are both passionate about our thoughts.

Okay. But to be fair some states like mine, have made it illegal.
TexChik · F
@SweetNSassy I have never seen that happen . I am sure many states say they wont allow it because every knocked up kid is going to claim rape. I would imagine if its proven or confirmed, her state would consent
@JesseInTX the next morning she woke up and called me and I told her straight to the pharmacy and they told her to take it and then we bought an extra one just in case. And she still ended up getting pregnant.
@TexChik their are plenty of cases where a child was raped by even a family member and they ended up pregnant. Imagine the trauma of not only going through that but also having to have the child.
carpediem · 61-69, M
Shhh, don’t tell that to wacky leftists. They’re mid rant.
@carpediem Did you see Pocohontas on CNN today? She looked like she was on the verge of a stroke.
carpediem · 61-69, M
@carpediem She needs to go back to her wigwam and shut the door behind her.

Abortion should never have been a constitutionally protected right.
I’m not even American and I think it’s outrageous, backward and I’m in shock. My heart goes out to women in those states. Especially yours.
carpediem · 61-69, M
@jim44444 Absolute BS. No one is overturning democracy. Rather, adhering to the constitution. Get a grip. 🙄
Slade · 56-60, M
@jim44444 painfully dumb
@jim44444 I agree with you and I have some great friends from America. I was making a statement about women and their autonomy over their bodies in general, re being shocked. As termination has been legal in my country for years, I was horrified to see that a country that the world looks to made such a decision.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
The simple fact is that the overturning of Roe v Wade has to do with correcting the legal fiction that the court can create a constitutional right by its own authority. Under the Roe v Wade precedent the court can simply impose rights as it sees fit which completely destroyed the amendment process laid out in the constitution.
Bottom line is funding yes?

You can still get abortions in every state.. just you gotta pay for it now not the taxpayer.. imagine that.. paying for your own choices.. the shock! The horror!
I’m sure blue run states will continue on..

Do you enjoy being an idiot? @TheOneyouwerewarnedabout
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout
that’s interesting because most states in the south look like the law in mine now. don’t speak on things you don’t know about

@crownedwithlaurel97 The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people. Seems the people of Arkansas, thru their elected representatives, have spoken
True.. many blue states
