Shoplifting for food 🤷‍♂
How about their punishment being that they have to owe the work, get paid....and they get to keep the food

Punishments are outdated as for ages it has not been serving the purpose as crimes are only getting innovative and on the increase.

So it's all just media hype as nobody remembers the crime or the criminal beyond a point.

It has been forgotten that punishments were introduced to prevent crime so people would deter from crime. But unfortunately it never bothers the one committing the crime for many are committed in an impulse.

The Netflix Adolescence is a good example of how a 13 year old boy justifies his act and shows no remorse or fear of punishment.

What's the use of punishing as however harsh it is, it's only torture and cruelty by the legal system.

Punishments must shift to social media interactions which can deter things getting intense.

Really I don't think it's about punishment as much as prevention. Some offenders can be taught or just kept in long enough to mature on their own. Others are sociopaths, psychopaths and the like. You can't really punish them and get any results. We need to start taking our prisons seriously. Brain scans can tell if someone is a sociopath There are patterns you can recognize on an MRI machine. We don't do that, but we should. We'd know which prisoners to send where. We need to clean up things like prison rape and torture that goes on. That makes punk kids into inhuman monsters when they get out. The goal of prison is to deter crime not worsen it. Id say also scan the guards brains too, at lot of them are there to torture and brutalize and to commit crime themselves. That's their goal for being in a prison. Maybe we need robots running the entire prison without human failings. They have no anger, sadism or greed. They'll actually go by the book, which ever book that is.

sexual aggression, especially to kids, should be automatic life sentence without possibilty of parole. this is not just an expression of outrage, there is a rational reason for this, if we decide to " give a second chance" to these people it equates to endangering inocent people to give a chance to someone who is a risk to the public. makes no sense. and its not about hatred or even punishment, its about keeping them locked up so that innocent peple can walk the streets safely. I'm not afraid of someone who gets in a fight with an abusive neighbor and kills him, he probably regrets it and will most certainly not do it again. rapists are rapists, there are multiple examples of someone going to jail for sexual agression and getting out and doing it again while crimes of passion are not typically recedivists. so FREE THE MURDERERS AND LOCK UP THE RAPISTS. just kidding

Why are we punishing anyway???

Most people already know right from wrong, so there's no teachable moment in there.

Time and energy is better spent on reform, reflection and retraining. Most people who go to jail are going to come out one day... so helping them to form alternative coping mechanisms, reflecting on what they did wrong and retraining them to return to society in a productive manner are all useful skills that we all could use to make society a better place.

I’m against the death penalty but some crimes deserve life without parole . Like murder 1 or harming kids .
KingofBones1 · 46-50, M
Honestly I say things like harming kids harming old people or pregnant women things like that deserve a very harsh punishment also harming animals deserves stricter penalties.

The things that deserve a lesser sentence are what I call victimless crimes. If you choose to smoke dope or if you choose to cultivate marijuana and some other adult chooses to buy it then so what. Also just because you have a felony record if you have a pistol but you haven't hurt anybody with it then who gives a fuck. The gun law should be that of only if you hurt other individuals should you be locked up for a gun crime. But not this nonsense of being locked up simply because you want to protect yourself or your household I'm sorry but that is straight trash

Punishment with the goal of retaliation doesn't work. Punishing harsher doesn't help to prevent crime. It never has. All that is, is an - albeit understandable - emotional response that serves no purpose other than to cause even more misery.

Punishment should be focused on either rehabilitation or protection of society. The harshest punishment would be lifelong imprisonment.

Against the death penalty.

The definition of rape should have been more broad nation wide decades ago.

There would be no doubt about a infamous thirty two count conviction then.

Say no and it doesn't stop, that's rape!

Punishments don’t do much we need to completely re-evaluate pretty much everything about criminal justice
akindheart · 61-69, F
it is not what deserves more or less. it is that the punishment fits the crime evenly. across the board
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Any sex crime deserves a longer sentence in jail.
Fertilization · 36-40, F
Rapists deserve a harsher punishment.
