Really I don't think it's about punishment as much as prevention. Some offenders can be taught or just kept in long enough to mature on their own. Others are sociopaths, psychopaths and the like. You can't really punish them and get any results. We need to start taking our prisons seriously. Brain scans can tell if someone is a sociopath There are patterns you can recognize on an MRI machine. We don't do that, but we should. We'd know which prisoners to send where. We need to clean up things like prison rape and torture that goes on. That makes punk kids into inhuman monsters when they get out. The goal of prison is to deter crime not worsen it. Id say also scan the guards brains too, at lot of them are there to torture and brutalize and to commit crime themselves. That's their goal for being in a prison. Maybe we need robots running the entire prison without human failings. They have no anger, sadism or greed. They'll actually go by the book, which ever book that is.
