The Brits may get the last laugh!

Now and then, there have been posts here about the differences between US and UK English.

My wife and I have spent the past week at our daughter's house in Florida. Her two little kids watch a number of cartoons from Britain: Peppa Pig, for example, as well as others.

Apparently , our granddaughter has been recently saying things like "going on holiday!"

Who knows? This could be an insidious British plot to ensure that the next generation of Americans will be speaking like them! 😂

It's about time you spoke proper English... And while we're at it, fix up your spelling too 😜

They'll always be essential differences

That little pig is a great cultural ambassador 🐷

Although slightly annoying at times, she actually has crystal clear diction and is certainly not the worst cartoon character to emulate 😊

@SunshineGirl I cahn't dispute that!

It certainly works the other way around. I'm a teacher and my kids say zee instead of zed. Also mom instead of mum.

We watch a lot of British TV.

@samueltyler2 I watch more British and European shows that American and Canadian now.

@calicuz I like police shows too.

I like it, our country is becoming too casual as it is.

Isn't Peppa Pig, Swedish or Danish (translated)?

BBC Radio has a big following in the US, too. As well as things like the Autumn seasons of live matinee performances from "The Met" - the Metropolitan Opera Hall (correct name?) - in New York.

What is the alternative to "going on holiday"?
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@DrWatson I think I say both
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@JimboSaturn I'm not sure whether that makes you a peacemaker or a trouble maker! 😄
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@DrWatson A little of both I suspect.

As long as she doesn't start saying "Bloody hell!", like Gordon Ramsay, no harm no foul. ☺️☺️☺️
