I had an interesting thought this morning

On my way to work.

How much do we associate ourselves with our bodies?

As in, when you think about yourself, do you think of yourself in your physical terms? Your body shape and other identifying physical features?

Or do you think of yourself as something other than the physicl being you are?

When I reflected on this, I realized that I tend to think of myself as something other than my physical body. My body is just a part of me that I carry around, but is not who I actually am.

It's probably too early to be this esoteric and philosophical, but here i am.

Nothing wrong with a bit of early morning philosophy!

I'm unusually short and that aspect of my physical identity has always been central to my character. When I was a girl it determined the sports and activities I could participate in. As an adult it still seems to influence the way in which interact with me.

@SunshineGirl That makes sense. I'm fairly short as well, but I make up for it in personality lol I actually enjoy being short.

Not so sure about associating myself to my body type, although I’m adjusting to drastic changes over last few years. At least I think they are drastic. I will say I most definitely do not feel the person inside matches the person that everyone sees. Heck I even scare myself sometimes when I see myself in the mirror. I forget I look like I do! Am I even answering the question? lol.

I don’t so much think of my physical body as much as I do my inner self. My soul. Every day I strive to improve myself from the inside out.

It can be a particularly deep rabbit hole to go down... There is the physicality of our bodies and how we use it, then there is the mind... And then there is the religious divide between the two...
FoxyGoddess · 51-55, F
@Convivial I think we can have the thought without religion though. In fact, i think religion may even cloud any thoughts based on it being either "bad" or "good" on considering yourself beyond your physical body.

@FoxyGoddess I was thinking about that exact thing... The social conditioning we grew up under... The oft times fight between thinking and doing..

I have long ago come to the conclusion that my body is nothing more than a vessel to carry my spirit. Nothing more than a biological robot; that needs fuel, constant maintenance and possible upgrades (glasses, hearing aids or joint replacements). The robot eventually wears out and our spirit vacates the premises.

@SageWanderer Yeah. I tend to agree. My body is the vehicle and interface that others interact with, but it is not who i intrinsically am. This is why I have no issues with people who modify their body. It's the same as decorating your home.
