I paid $275 a month for a house on a lake. I lived there 3 years. It was an ok house but not in the greatest shape. I fixed stuff for my landlord in exchange for cheaper or free rent. After I got it fixed up pretty good the lady who owned it sold it. She offered it to me for a good price before she listed it to sell but it was time for me to go anyway. It’s was a good thing for me & the landlord for awhile.
I had roomates and my share was $300 a month plus utilities and groceries

My first apartment was $55 a month for a nice 1 bedroom. It was when I was in Japan.

I have lived in this apartment 18 years. I used to be able to live on my Social Security. Now it doesn't even cover my half of the rent.

150.00$ a month.. but only because it was a run down old house that my friend's mom was going to let my brother stay in for free.. so long as he paid the electric .. he didn't want to stay there tho so my husband and i did and volunteered 150$ rent lol

The dude who owned it was in jail, said I could crash there free of charge till he got out. Just don’t go near the mailbox, he said. The flat was empty of any furniture or appliances. I had been living on the street till then and appreciated getting out of the weather.

For a roomy 1 bedroom basement apartment, early 2000's, I think it was $300/month or so; maybe less.

$900/month for a 3/2 apartment of about 950 sq. ft in 2003
Same apartment starts at about $2500 now. More than twice my mortgage payment after both taxes and insurance. Got my house at $145K in 2013. Same house now estimated at $400K on zillow.
Despite significant increases in my salary, I would struggle to purchase my home at today's values.

@ShenaniganFoodie yeah $1500 a month. Its a brand new condo. I have 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen with a large walk in pantry, dining room, living room, 2 car garage, and a patio. The back yard is fenced and my HOA does all the yard work.
exexec · 70-79, C
Wow! That was 50 years ago. I have no idea, but our first house cost $37,000. It was a year old, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths in a new neighborhood.
