$135,000 back in 1997

YoMomma ·
Our last house was a 3 bedroom 1 bathroom brick house with a carport on one acer in the country was only 45k

Our current house was a 10k shed on a 5.5k wooded narrow lot that slopes down to a creek, 3k for a septic and 0k for a well and idk how many 100’s and 1000’s for interior and pluming and fixtures and electrical and what not .. probably spent 32k or so all in and it’s unfinished but it’s paid for (sold the last house for 90k so got 32k out of it after paying it off and the realtor fees and what not)

I'm a millennial. We don't get to own homes without daddy's help or Grandma's inheritance.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
I think it was $667K back in 2017. It's very expensive here.
gregloa · 61-69, M

@gregloa I seriously doubt that, unless you live in the middle of the nowhere rural south.

Never bought one. I'm told the range here is between 400 thousand to over a million. Depending on what it comes with.

This is a desert.
Cigarguy · M
350,000 we just moved in last month
exexec · 70-79, C
We built this one for $137,000 in 1998.

Which home? I have owned many.
AbbeyRhode · F
When my parents bought the house, it cost $17,000. Now, it's supposedly worth $350,000.
A tidy sum. Further details are NOT the kind of info I'm going to disclose to random strangers on the internet!!!
Monalisasmith86 · 41-45, F
@ElwoodBlues was is done legally ?
@Monalisasmith86 Yes indeed, with a purchase & sale agreement, and a downpayment, and a mortgage, and a title search and an inspection and lawyers at the closing! Also present at the closing: our (then infant) son asleep in his carseat/carrier.
ToLivePeacefully · 31-35, M

*&^%$ i'm renting. i'll never be able to afford a home here....i live in perhaps the most expensive cities in canada
@beermeplease We all thought $150k for a three bed two bath was insane back then, now it's considered a steal.
@NativePortlander1970 2 bed 1 bath we are renting for is 2460 and that;s converted to usd (3400cad) we have a big yard though but we don't use it. good thing is we hire a dirt cheap landscaper to mow it.

Diotrephes · 70-79, M
The land is more valuable than the building. Look around you. Do you see any vacant lots in your city anymore?
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Diotrephes
You're right about land being more expensive...

Yet actually they tear vacant buildings down here. Say after twenty years being vacant. So there is many vacant lots here.

You can't keep up with the maintenance being vacant. Therefore they are not up to code and must been torn down.

Long gone are the days that any structure will last more than 50 years without maintenance.
Musicman · 61-69, M

@Musicman thanks I apriciate that I don’t hear that much from my folks and I keep a low profile.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@userfawkes1105 I am sorry to hear that, but I understand. My own dad never told me he loved me or was proud of me. ☹
