A decent sized house with nice sized rooms. Something around 3500 sq ft. It would be nice if it was on the water. I prefer a warm climate. I want neighbors, but not to close. A pool would be nice. It definitely has to have garage space including one bay big enough for the motorhome. It also needs to be close to shopping and dining. It has to have good medical close by too.

Omg, so many options. Based on my own experience, I would like this:

Near a forest and some body of water but not too close to it. The terrain would be reasonably hilly but no steep slopes around. No mountains to block the sunlight for half a day. Definitely not in the valley. Not somewhere far away from civilization, I wouldn't mind being somewhere at the outskirts of a bigger city, not too far from an airport if I wanted to travel, for example.
A small detached house with a sunny terrace on the first floor where no building around would cast shadow on it for the most of the day. Kitchen and bathroom having windows facing east. My bedroom would be north or west. I'd have a garden big enough to have a few fruit trees in it. An apple tree and a walnut tree. There would be a sunny place to grow strawberries and vegetables on.

But..I also wonder what it's like to live by the sea somewhere where it's significantly warmer than the climate I know. 🤔

@CrazyMusicLover Mediterranean type climate would be excellent for growing your own food. But so many want that type of climate and real estate is hugely expensive.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@cherokeepatti I'm not sure if it's so anymore. There's drought in summer, wildfires in many areas. Around the coast, there's rocky ground so perhaps just deeper inland. I guess this makes suitable places even less accessible. Real estate is the most expensive at the coast and the way it looks, there aren't many places that wouldn't be destroyed by huge concrete complexes or old houses built too close to each other leaving no space for gardens. I checked out the map the other day and it really looks desperate in many places.

@CrazyMusicLover Would be good if the government didn’t divert and hoard the water to keep from the citizens. It doesn’t have to be bad.
My ideal home would be :

-An ecological, medium-sized cottage
-With a garden and where I can grow fruit trees and plant vegetables
-On a mountain with a beautiful view
-Beside a forest
-With a beach at the foot of the mountain
- Bohemian Style but not the cluttery kind with too much going on, but one nicely-curated aesthetically, with artwork and special things one has collected through travelling. Above all, it must have a cozy vibe.

Nice post, this was fun, thank you☺

I recently considered downsizing. The house is way too big for one. But with a little help I decided just to move to the downstairs area and avoid the stairs. Its still more than I really need. But I will never get a location like this again..😷

A Victorian terraced house with a small garden in front and a bigger garden at the back, just beyond the back yard. Various outbuildings in the back yard including an outside toilet. That doesn't mean I don't want an indoor toilet inside the bathroom, it means I want an outside one to use while I'm gardening.
A villa with sea views and mountain views, warm, dry climate. Decent size but manageable garden, swimming pool. Not too far from civilisation.
NOS4R2 · 41-45
@Mindfulness a swimming pool with the climate to match sounds luxurious.

@Mindfulness Marbella Spain , or pacific coast of Mexico .

A cabin in the wooded mountains, not too small but not huge. A babbling creek near by. Private yet still somewhat close to amenities. Large deck with scenic overlook. Lots of windows, a fireplace, and and outdoor kitchen. Master bedroom with adjoining spacious bath featuring an enormous bath tub made of rose quartz. 😍 Lots of live plants and books everywhere.
SpudMuffin · 61-69, M
A cottage with a large garden, in a village somewhere in the SW of England, within walking distance of a pub.
The garden would have lots of colourful flowers, and greenery, and a gardener.
There would be outbuildings with room for several cars.
NOS4R2 · 41-45
@SpudMuffin i never thought of being close to a pub. Or a village. That's important 👍
SpudMuffin · 61-69, M
@NOS4R2 even better if the pub does takeaway.

A modest, single level home, in a forest by a lake with good fishing. No lawn, just natural ground cover to control. A garden of azaleas, day lilies, and other flowering plants. Easy drive to medical care, grocery store, golf course, and church.
Acreage, lots of it. The house isn't so important, but it does need to be fairly new with metal roof, metal siding. Lots and lots of trees, and a lake nearby. Mountain and Ocean views.
No neighbours, but close enough to town to get groceries easily. Maybe some quad trails.
It would be a natural place safe from tree killers and animal hunters. Lots of wild animals wandering around. Electricity and city water.
A pool would be nice. Covered parking for the cars.

Just a modest little house, simply and comfortably furnished, with a small yard, in the mountains, somewhat secluded, but not too far from shopping and medical facilities.
StygianKohlrabi · 46-50, M
I might like to live in a beach town with a house facing the beach. There are some nearby.
NOS4R2 · 41-45
@StygianKohlrabi that sounds nice. Falling alseep to the sounds of the waves.
StygianKohlrabi · 46-50, M
@NOS4R2 watching the people on the beach 🔭 just kidding it's too cold for that here
Used to be the beach but ...flooding

A small cabin in the woods with a creek ...I need to be near water of some kind ...even a small body of it
A small house in the middle of the Tuscan hills, surrounded by tall trees and a lake nearby. A garden to grow my own food and a flower garden too.
NOS4R2 · 41-45
@V00doo Serene. I imagine you would wake to plenty of birdsong
@NOS4R2 That would be lovely
Lugwho · 61-69, M
This would do

NOS4R2 · 41-45
@Lugwho not big on neighbors then😂
Lugwho · 61-69, M
@NOS4R2 In an ideal world 🤣
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Home is where the heart is . . location and design are of secondary importance 💖
It has to be on a cliff overlooking a large body of water - have all manner of secret rooms - and it must be overcast and raining all the time:

A bunker the way the worlds going
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Oh yeah a spacious Atlas underground shelter would be excellent.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Remember where the avengers found and killed Thanos ? A cottage like that would be ideal.
