Favorite holiday activity?

I just saw a Christmas commercial with kids admiring the tree. I think my favorite part of Christmas is watching a special holiday movie with a mug of hot cocoa or a holiday treat. What is your favorite part?

@Degbeme But you got advent calendars ?
Degbeme70-79, M
@Queendragonfly Oh yeah. No shortage of those here. They even have them for dogs and cats.
Queendragonfly31-35, F
@Degbeme Yes and with power tools or makeup.

Sitting at some of the few surviving malls on any of those days, watching the lights, the decorations, and the people fighting over stuff like gladiators at the coliseum, while I bet who will survive.
IndianaJoesM
@OnePatheticClown hahaha... If you think that's funny then during the summertime you should sit by the boat loading ramp at your local reservoir and watch husbands and wives try to load a boat onto a trailer. You will find plenty of heated moments there too. Especially when the man jack knives the trailer into the quarter panel of his pickup truck and then blames it on his wife for standing there watching him do it.

Used to be watching the kids all excited opening their gifts. Now its brunch Christmas morning with them as young adults, whole new vibe.

@Musicman yes this was a Christmas light show that was done every year for many years and then they stopped doing it about 2 years ago. It was called the We Care park in Kokomo. Multi millons of lights.
Musicman61-69, M
@IndianaJoes That's to bad they stopped. It looks amazing. 馃檪
IndianaJoesM
@Musicman it was absolutely huge. You could drive a car through it or get out and walk.

An activity on my list is to have a girlfriend or a date that I can hold hands and walk around the city to see Christmas decorations everywhere. It鈥檚 romantic and beautiful with the snow. In Christmas movies, it鈥檚 always fun to see decorations.
IndianaJoesM
@Dethmoore that would be another one of my favorites
Musicman61-69, M
I like to ride around and see all the decorations. 馃檪馃檪馃檪
IndianaJoesM
@Musicman definitely Christmas story. And then all the old cartoons that I grew up with such as Rudolph and Frosty the snowman. I don't know why but for some reason I always loved the reindeer games coach reindeer.
Musicman61-69, M
@Coralmist Good choices. My wife loves the Hallmark Christmas movies so we always watch them. No, we just stay local for seeing the lights. @IndianaJoes I love the cartoons too. We have some of them in DVD. I also like the Snoopy cartoons too. 馃檪
IndianaJoesM
@Musicman yes the snoopy ones too. Especially the Red Barron part.

Listening to Carolers singing in the distance and the town crier ringing in the New Year
IndianaJoesM
@Banksy83 I really miss that but I don't think they do that anymore around here.
Banksy8336-40, M
@IndianaJoes they still do in Hampshire
IndianaJoesM
@Banksy83 our culture has certainly changed for the worst.
IndianaJoesM
Mine is very similar... Cuddling up next to the one I love under the blanket on the couch watching old favorite holiday movies... That's what I miss the most.
Driving around the neighborhood with Christmas music on ..drinking hot cocoa ....looking at all the decorations

Getting presents from santa.
I really don鈥檛 enjoy Christmas nowadays since I had to be with my husband鈥檚 side of the family. I just don鈥檛 like them.
Anyway, during Christmas time, when we are home, I鈥檝e always enjoyed visiting Christmas markets and drinking some mulled wine. :)
NerdyPotatoM
In theory I'm with you on the special holiday movies. Would love to have a Die Hard marathon. But sadly my family expects me to visit them instead, so in practice I'm with @Degbeme.
@NerdyPotato Another one who's blocked me. Wonder what his problem is?

Usually like the celebrate with a cigar and a hot toddy, or bourbon cider.
Admittedly the difference from every singel day is the drink is not straight whiskey, but hea, I like variety!

When my kids were young i would take them to downtown Chicago on State st and Michigan Ave to see store windows and decorations. Even better if it snowed

The white elephant exchange with friends. Fortunately, all my friends have a twisted sense of humor, so you never know what weird thing you're going to get.
