When the kids were little, i worked at tge school so thankfully had holidays off with them. Hubs would take time in the hols to get a few days away with the kids.
Now, hubs and I try to get weekends away often and now i'm not tied to the school hols we try to get a couple of hols a year.
Also, when i know my daughter is home on leave, I book a couple of days off to get some time with her.

@Gangstress ooh...thank you!
I hope my kids would agree!! Lol.

No kids, but my gf and I are just starting to set those patterns and to set the expectations with our families. At holidays for the last two years, we have done the crazy drive to both houses and spending half the time here and half the time there. It's crazy. But in 2025 we have let it be known that we will be splitting holidays and visiting one house or the other, but not both on any given holiday.

This will be hard for the families and on us because we are both very close to our families.
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@sarabee1995 i absolutely understand and we took both houses separately as it wss just too much for us.
Its so much better now not splitting our time as we can fully focus on both families at their given times
Hope it gets better for you both this year hun
we travel alot together. actually going away next week for a much needed vacation. both of us have kids from previous marriages. i have four and she has two. they are all grown for the most part. i am semi retired and her schedule is flexible so we get to spend alot of time together.

We are old and have been married over 40 years, so our activities are more limited now. Still, we spend time together. All of our holidays have been family events. When our children were young, I always made time to do things with them. All Saturdays belonged to our children.
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@exexec excellent parenting imo 👌

I used to align my vacation time with my kids’ holidays so we could do stuff together. Sometimes he was with us, most times not. A couple years ago, he started aligning his vacation time with mine. We’re not big vacationers, so it’s usually just doing our separate things at home with an occasional day trip. Like a week-long Saturday. lol
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@JustNik yeh i think im seeing the father not doing so much trend in friends etc atm
But at least hes aligned now. Glitter and i have always taken the same time off be it pottering around or going away
JustNik · 51-55, F
@Gangstress I think it’s easier for men to feel excluded sometimes. The mom will often naturally take a dominant role with the children so for the men, it’s probably a bit like that jump rope where you have to find the right time to jump in. I’ve seen a lot of dads jump in readily when the mom is less interested.

I’ve always felt you two have such a lovely thing going there. Not a lot of taking for granted. 😄
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@JustNik yeh that does make sense to me hun. Happened with my dad too especially when younger
Haha yeh i think its coz were 2 women so its like having your lover and best mate around lol 😆 but we don't have kids so our times our own
I imagine with kids things are a lot different

I enjoy my wife’s company. We vacation a couple times a year together. Her mom flies over from the UK to come on the summer vacation. Her daughter is in college. She’ll come sometimes. It just depends on her plans.

Holidays are at our house.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Most of our holidays revolve around our daughter and our nieces and nephews. We had leisure time together before kids came along. We will have more time together when they grow up. The bit in between is fleeting and too precious to waste.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
We always time time off together. Now that my daughter is grown up , she has her own time off. Occasionally I take a friday off by myself in the summer.
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@JimboSaturn yeh thats a good way to share time together and of course nice to spend a nice friday on a summer day lol
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@Gangstress It's usually spent doing chores and running errands so we have more of the weekend free to have fun!
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@JimboSaturn thats really sweet tbh

Generally all together..but less so these day's. Kids growing up,have own friend's. So will try one more family holiday together in the next few years,then they can do what they want.
Leaving mum n dad to finally get away ( and more often!!)

She has her stuff, I have my stuff, and we have our stuff together.

She does the girls trip to the shore and I do a boys golf trip and we have trips and vacations together.

So it all works out!
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
Do you need a vacation from @GLITTER?

Gangstress · 41-45, F
