I don’t usually like pumpkin pie but I tweek up the recipe when I make it. I use cream or half-and-half instead of regular milk or canned evaporated milk, add some melted butter, double the amount of cinnamon and use brown sugar (or add molasses to the white sugar) when I make pumpkin pie. I can’t have gluten so I take some of the filling and bake it crust-free in a small pan.
I do not like green bean casserole at all. It’s all highly processed foods, salty and overcooked. Supposedly the number one Thanksgiving side dish in Oklahoma.
@cherokeepatti I make my green bean casserole from scratch, using fresh ingredients, mushrooms, butter, olive oil, salt, chardonnay white wine, real heavy cream, and whole onions
@NativePortlander1970 It’d be good then. I have taken the broccoli casserole that had all highly processed ingredients and made it with fresh ingredients and it was really good.
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Not too many people serve it here, for Thanksgiving. But an old fashioned Thanksgiving treat when I was growing up was spiced apple rings. They were bright red, and spiced with cinnamon, mace, ginger and nutmeg.
@4meAndyou Yes, that is what usually pisses me off to no extent. It is always my younger brother that does it too. I sometimes wonder if he does not troll the county jail that morning picking up as many fresh releasees that will fit in his car and then drives to my place.
I say this because almost all of his lost souls' friends all have jail and prison records. Last year it was a couple that were married, divorced because he molested their children and went to prison, and now remarried once the kids were raised and out of mom's home. Things like that and I have family with young kids at my gathering as well. This year I told my brother he was not invited and do not show up because of that shit, He did get pissed, but he honored his older war veteran brother's demand. (He is a war veteran as well but knows his older brother will execute what he said he would if he came and brought shit people with him too).
@WillaKissing No justification for bringing people like that, uninvited, to your home. Suggest to your brother that HE can cook for the jailbirds at his own home.
Nothing really. Turkey breast I will admit is far to dry to eat. I save all of the breast for cooking. It's good in sandwiches, put some extra sharp cheader and avocado and it's very good. Pot pie is probably the best thing to do with turkey breast or pierogies.
@Musicman I miss cranberry sauce, I love it but it messes up my rat poison numbers, it weakens my protection from future blood clots, the same with spinach, which I love as well :(
